BakFlip G2 or Undercover Tonneau Cover?

Yes and no. The rails for the BakFlip mount to the side bed rails, making them unusable as it covers the whole rail. The front rail is accessible, but the normal tie-downs need to be in place before the cover is put on, otherwise it is hard to re-position them. BakFlip does have a ring kit that mounts with the system ($50.00 extra) that gives you 4 tie down points as an option.

Thanks for the info, even those couple of pics that you posted already give me a good idea of what you've done. I really like the look of that system, but I don't really need the full height rack that comes with the CS. I wonder if it's possible for me to get the G2 plus a set of rails. I also wonder if Yakima or Thule has a set of feet that might slide into that rail system without additional drilling and tapping (thus allowing you to slide the bars as well).

Definitely would love to see a couple of close-up pics of how you mounted them to the rails so I can start thinking about how I might do it.

I think I'm fine with not being able to flip the cover open when I have the bars mounted on the rack, but I was thinking that it still might be able to open without too much issue with just the bolt-top loader brackets on it. They're pretty low-profile:

Alright. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

 

It takes me a long time to shop for something before I buy it. This thread was one of about a hundred I've read detailing all sort's of bed covers. The most intriguing part of it is seeing Morrie from Bak actually posting!!! Needless to say, I took his link over to the site to check them out for about the 20th time.

There is a interactive chat feature on his site, and I took advantage of it. I talked to a "Jordan" about the F1 and the Fibermax. Turns out the Bakflip F1 is exactly what I'm looking for, and he offered me a great deal on it! Originally it is priced at $929.88, but he said he could get it to me for $775 flat rate + free shipping!

So I had to ask about the tailgate locks of course, and he offered the manual Pop and Lock model for $50 flat and the automatic Dynolock model for $115 flat.

Such a good deal I had to try for one more. They have Weather Tech mats in their catalog too, and offered me the set of 4 for $155 when WT site has them for $169.

Needless to say, pending my clutch issue, I am about to get a bed cover, new lock, and floor mats

Searching for one myself. The new rollbak looks awesome. Locks. Waterproof. All aluminum so you can even stand on it. However it's pricey. Starting the change jar today.

I ordered a BAK Roll X from Morrie yesterday. He got me the best price anywhere. Looking forward to installing and reviewing it.

 

I bought a Gator FX3 same as Bakflip F1. Came in box labeled from BAK industries. Has same warranty. Only paid $720! I am loving it. I installed the Pop and Lock power tailgate lock to deter theft and will mod the part of the cover closest to the tailgate to address the coat hanger thieves.

 

Are you able to completely remove this one easily? I am concerned with putting my dirtbikes in the back and would prefer not to have the rear window covered. Where did you find it for that price. Thanks!

 

I bought through Auto Customs and Tonneau Covers World. They are owned by same company. They beat everyone's prices and did not charge me tax or shipping. Weather techs were $139 for DC ! I can take the cover off in about 5 minutes if I wanted to. Not real hard.

 

I just put an Extang Solid Fold onto my 2012 TRD. I almost bought the Trifecta soft cover.
Easy installation ... cannot open the full bed like a Bak Flip G2, but Extang has a 3 year warranty; Bak Flip is only for 1 year.
As well, there was a broken hinge cover with my order, and Extang shipped a new one to me immediately.
In these times, this is "EXCELLENT" service.
The cover looks great on my Tacoma.
I expect some water. ALL covers will leak something. If the bed remains dry, that is a bonus.
The only drawback ... a fabric tonneau is very light and can easily be removed; the hard fold covers are heavy.
Life goes on ... not as good as a full cap, and better than an open bed.

 

If you're looking for a lift-up cover then I'd have to recommend an Undercover. If that's' not the style you want of course you need to consider a folder. My Undercover is now 9 years old and still dry as a bone, locks work great and looks new. I've loaded my JD yard riding mower and a large roto-tiller in the back without taking it off but you can remove it with 2 people. It's the cat's meow.

 

We ended up ordering a leer 550 hardshell cover, which is supposed to be put on tomorow. I will come back with an opinion.

 

I had a solid fibreglass cover on my last Tacoma. It really gave the truck a custom look, but I found it too restrictive. I was lucky to find a full cap, and we traded even. My good fortune.
With my newer Tacoma, I decided to try the folding type of cover, because I wanted more flexibility. I installed an Extang Solid Fold.
I might be giving up security; the solid cover locks tight, along with a tailgate lock, and everything is out of sight.
As well, you will not have any leaks into the box.
Enjoy whatever your choice, as you look good, driving your Tacoma down the road.

 

Well we kept going back and forth over which one to get, and it took us this long to decide. We decided on this one for the reasons of the water leak threat, and the security, which seems safer in this kind. I do think it will limit us though.. Hopefully it will meet our needs because it cost enough! haha

 

What a bloody nite mear! We watched 3 different males.. two young pups and one grown, try to put that hard shell lear cover on. Each one took their turn on what they said was a half hour job, turned it into over 3 hours, of pulling, and pushing and screwing and unscrewing it on.. and it would not work! I kept repeating to the guy at the desk, it doesnt fit ..what are we going to do? He kept saying they'll get it on. Yeah, well we could watch thru the window and it seemed impossible. Finally as one by one left the guy at the desk went out, and finally, finally got it on. He came back saying they come from the factory with custom settings and are to go on like that, but the other's had screwed up the settings so he took it all apart and started from the beginning and it went right on!!!! I just hope that pushing and pulling on it didnt hurt the hinges! Anyway, it looks nice, that's all I can say right now. I will get pictures and post them when I can. Whew!

 

I have the BFG2. You will lose access to the bed rails and The bed will not stay dry. The BFG2 looks great but it ain't cheap. As for the better gas MPG, forget about it.You won't notice much if any difference. The truck looks good with it on and it keeps the @@s holes walking by your truck from throwing garbage in your bed while its parked at a mall. It's mostly a security precaution. You may need a tail gate lock too.

 

Just had her out and the cover gave us a heck of a time closing. We thought it never would close. Ugh... it's still not right.
