I'd also check out an ext cab if you're really considering the 5.3. The room in back is not much different, honestly, and they're a good bit cheaper.

I was pricing them out and I found a couple 08's (fords) that were a couple thousand less than the Chevy.

Most of the 07-10 f150s I found were nearly as expensive as a 2011 with much better engine options. I didn't want the 5.4, but it's not a horrible engine. Gas mileage will suck, I have heard 13-15 real world, at least if it has a 4 speed, I think all 09+ are six, not sure when they switched

Dude if you want bedspace you need an ext cab at least though. Ford crews are usually the 5.5' bed, my truck bed is wider and taller than the taco was, but that foot of length makes a big difference, and I hardly gained payload. The taco was better as far as bed utility for sure. I think with that crappy rear seat the Chevy retains a 6 or 6.5' bed.

And if you find a 6.5' bed supercrew f150 get your paddle out to float that yacht down the highway, my truck is already huge, can't imagine even more length.

X2 my dad had a supercrew 6.5 it was like parking a bus and the 5.4 isnt to bad on gas as long as you baby it he averages 18 and as put over 120,000 miles working and hauling everthing from concrete to mini dozers and excavaders. Granted the one before it was used and was a lemon. But ever other one from 1996, 250,000 thousand miles, 99' 225,000 ,2004 200,000 plus 50,000 with me at 16 there good trucks

I know they are 5'5" long but it's the width and the depth of the bedsides that make a big difference. They are definitely wider than the tacomas and can hold a little more of the small stuff that I haul

I have one in the parking lot. It helps, but not much. Long bed taco was definitely better than short bed f150. Had the tacos tonneau in the f150 to meet a guy to sell it and it was surprising. I guess the bed height would help for gravel and mulch, but for hauling oversized equipment, my taco had the same payload more or less, was longer and not much narrower, and was way way way easier to load, even lifted.

Look man I love my truck, but. You're trying to justify it based on bed capacity. I owned both trucks and I'm telling you it isn't there. If you really need fullsize hauling get an ext cab 2wd.

All that being said, while I still think a tacoma or an ext cab fullsize is a better buy for you economically, I do really like being able to seat a bunch of adults and tow way more than the tacoma could. Parking it sucks compared to a taco though. Why not an 05-06 double cab tundra? its like a 3/8 ton.

A tundra sucks down some gas! Lol. I will look into it some more. I might end up with a DCSB taco since your saying the payload is no different.

Well, payload is way different on other configs. The supercrew is just so f'ing big, it can't haul anything in 4wd form. My door sticker says like 1350 pounds occupants + payload. I think the newer ones, ford's site lists at like 1500 maybe?

Unless earlier years had the max tow package, where you can get another 500 lbs. I mean, what are you gonna be hauling?

Don't get me wrong, a 2wd ext cab will haul some shit, because the GVWR isn't soaked up by a bazillion pound 4-door cab and a front diff and transfer case.

I didn't think first gen tundras were that bad? I have heard the second gens are awful.

What I am hauling is no where near the payload of either trucks. So, I guess it comes down to preference and cab space. I like the space of Justin's DCSB only because my kids are small now and by the time I think about getting a different truck, my oldest will be driving! lol

Lol, well if you want the bigger truck because you want it, fair enough. That's why I buy half the shit I buy, I just don't try to justify myself needing it. :D

For my purposes, I am very happy with my 5.5' bed supercrew. It's enough bed space to haul the things I use a truck for 99.9% of the time, and it'll pull more than enough trailer for the other times. The extra cab space is totally worth it to me. It wasn't a cheap truck, though.

Well I don't need a fullsize! Lol. I am probably gonna get a taco because I won't have to buy a play toy and a trailer!

I actually have a jeep now. Imagine that.
being that that I no longer have a truck, I am quite frequently (at least twice a month) borrowing either my brothers truck (2012 f150 platinum) or my dads 2006 dclb.

In all reality, I find myself borrowing my dads more frequently because I don't have to keep tying down everything due to length. That 5.5 in the f150 is really not much bigger than my dcsb was. Slap a toolbox in it and its absolutely useless.

I used to think I absolutely had to have a double cab/4 door when I go full size, but I'm really starting to rethink it. The extended cabs are about as big in the back seat as a dc tacoma (at least my z71 was) and the bed length is a must have.

I agree completely on the bed space. I don't regret my purchase one bit, because the f-150 rear seats fold up and the floor is completely flat, which makes a huge and very handy cargo space for TVs and that kind of thing I'd rather not have banging around in the truck bed anyway.

But yeah, Paul's right otherwise, the f-150 short bed isn't any better than the taco one. It's not any worse either.

All that being said, I would not go back and get an ext cab. While an extended cab f-150 does have as much room as a crew taco, the supercrew is a luxury couch in the back. We had three cars (miata, taco, and scion tc) and none of them could seat 4 adults comfortably, so having 4 doors on at least one vehicle now is totally worth it. My biggest consistent use of a truck bed is hauling dirty camping gear and a dirty dog, I'll just have to tow a trailer the other times. *shrug*

But yeah, if I were in Mat's shoes I'd be looking at tacos, especially DCLB.
