So I cleaned and painted my frame and rear axel yesterday, might go back over another coat with rubberized under coating or or rock guard. Just decided to do some preventive maintenance cause I was getting some surface rust, nothing to bad but I was on duty at the hangar with nothing else to do while our duty helo was out on a 9 1/2 hr SAR case up to bethel.

All this stuff going on mine makes me wanna just park it and do the same thing before my stuff gets here. Gonna have to be the cleanest it's ever been for the vinyl application anyway.

Custom TRD Badged Grill, PowderCoated Black Steelies, with 285/75/16's. Studded Firestone Winter Force for Winter snow, Firestone Destination M/T for the summer mud, 2.75" Ready Lift Block kit in the front, and 2" AAL in the back, 5100 billies, TRD Cat-Back Exhaust, K&N CAI system under the hood, on a sesame seed bun.
Time to replace rear shocks, and Nick reminded me that since i need to order shocks, i might as well do 5100s alllllllll around. ;-)

My question is, since I now tow a 3500lb camper in the summer, should i look at air bags for the rear for extra strength? or do you think the upgraded 5100's in the back alone will be better/stronger than the stock bils the truck came with? IF i were to do airbags, what does that mean for offroading? better? worse? i don't know a whole lot about 'em.

Also, the 5100s are adjustable heights, right? or am i confusing them with another model? I'd LIKE to ditch the spacer kit all together and get a nice CO system, but i just can't afford that right now (at least not compared to buying 4 shocks, i dont think). would it be a bad idea to adjust the front shocks by say an inch or 3/4" for a little extra height in the front? the spacers i have now are 2.5", it'd be cool to get an even 3" or even 3.5, but not sure if thats smart move or not utilizing the same spacers i have now. I wish i was richer... ben.. can i borrow a few?....thousand, :p hehehe

20% tint on all windows, Deckplate mod, satoshi-ish grille, blacked out and/or body matched emblems, rattle canned rims, red l.e.d. interior lights, bilstein 5100's and OME 881 coils , deaver 8 leaf pack, 1.5" lift shackle, alpine sound system, 55w HID lightforce 140 and 170 fogs
The shocks themselves won't change the towing really, that'd be the springs themselves. I'm not sure how much airbags are, but a new leaf pack in the rear would definitely help with the towing.

And yes, the 5100s are height adjustable for between 0 and 2.5" of lift. If you want to completely ditch the spacers you should look into either OME or Eibach coils to pair with the 5100s. Then you can keep the 5100s at the stock height setting which would give you a better ride and it would also give you the 3" of lift you're looking for.

That's why you turn it on in the winter. So you don't get frost bite. ;)

You could also run the OME coils with the OME shocks instead of the 5100s

AH. Ok. That's what I figured. And eventually the leafs will be going bye-bye with something more umfy. I need to see how much the coils are I guess. I like that I can adjust if I wish. Though if I do the front first, I'm afraid ill have that rake again. Might have to do it in stages. Will see

The eibach and OME coils are $160 for the pair. They have different coils for different lift heights

5100s are rebuildable too. Also, later when you go to coil overs, you don't have to buy the kit with the shocks since you'll have the 5100s already, just need the coils and like Matt said, OME, eibach or even ToyTec makes a good set which is what I run
