V6 KM per Tank ?

He added just under 15 imperial gallons , he would have to have got almost 30 mpg ( imperial gallons )

I call BS

 

It certainly seems like BS. I can see 50km..even 100km more..and that's a stretch. But 200km more than I average? No way. Something isn't right.

Well congrats on getting the best fuel economy on the entire site by about 25%

 

Damnit! I knew I should have bought the V6. Can barely get that with the 4 banger.
Or maybe I should be buying gas in "Quebec Litres".

 

I got 565km on a full tank all hwy 2 weeks ago....I was running on vapor I think.... took a few bucks to fill up.

Not bad. Still had 4-6 litres to go before you were really in trouble.

 

That's 25 mpg US, in theory possible, but requires all the factors to line up:

- Drive below 110 kph to keep engine below 2000 rpm.
- No abrupt starts and stops (cruise control)
- No significant grades (or mostly downhill)
- No A/C

Could also be other factors like a smaller-than-stock tire diameter (odometer registering more kms than actually traveled) or a miscalibrated gas pump (pump registering fewer liters sold than actual).

 

If I get close again I'll put a tank of gas in the bed and push it further

Well you don't have to do that. It's not good for the fuel pump. It's cooled and lubricated by the fuel in the tank. Running it under a quarter tank is a good way to burn it out faster.

But at least know you now with similar driving you could go 580km easy.

So If I got it right, I should try to keep my tank over 1/4 full to give my fuel pump a chance ?

Did any taco owners have problems with their just out of curiosity ?

You're pretty much on it. But my tires are stock and I dont really have a way of beeing sure about the pump meter calibration...i could try to get you my next tank/km I filled it up tonight.

 

^If the pump really is off, you should use the same pump to fill up and save some money.

 

Some have yes. It's more of a CYA. That being said I routinely run my truck to E. But it's only for 45mins since I do so much highway traveling. (200kms a day.)

 

^The Tacoma pump has no overheat protection?

In any case it's just another opportunity to upgrade to a higher-flow Walbro pump. From what I read it's needed for tuned engines.

 

I have no idea honestly, but better to be careful than regretful.
