Well i have been shopping for a new vehicle for a while and im thinking a Toyota pickup will be my choice.

    1. But i was curious if i should go I4 or V6 ? this will be a daily driver with some hauling sometimes of nothing more than 600lbs.
    2. Next is what engines do the 2004s have in them ?
    3. Should i go 05 or 04 or maybe some other year ?
    4. what could i expect to find on a budget of 10k-13k ?

well the regular cabs only come with 4 cylinders....but hauling 600lbs would be easy to do with the 4 cylinder.....you will get better gas mileage too and it will be cheaper to buy a 4 cylinder....05 is when they changed to the new body style of the tacoma so you would need to decide if you like the look of the older style or the newer style...i saw an 03 for $8500 awhile back with a little over 100k miles on it....but it had rust on it pretty bad and stuff....i think you can get extended cabs with 4 cylinders too but some are v6....but i think all the double cabs are v6...at least that's how the new ones are....not sure about the 04 and 05's but i figure it's the same..then you have to decide if you want manual or automatic tranny....4wd or not...so on and so forth...good luck with your search

I had a 04 regular cab prerunner and traded it in for my 05 Dbl Cab TRD Prerunner. I gotta say I like the 4.0 V6 and the extra room... don't buy something you won't use cause thats just a waste of money. Either old or new you can still do some sweet mods :) Go to autotrader.com. With this economy i'm sure you could get a kick a$$ deal

Here is my 04 SR5 4X4. Has a 2.7L engine, 5 speed manual shift. I get about 24 mpg. Paid $12K for it last week.

    The 3.4 v6 is a 5vz. 2.7 is 3rz. 2.4 is 2rz.

On to your other questions. I've had my truck for 3 years now. Hunted in it for all of them. Had an 800 lb elk in it, and all I can say is the truck handled it great, I even had more traction. I would say hunting is all in the tires, good tires will get you places (and get you out). I would say that unless you plan on doing anything where you would need more power, the 2.7 will be fine on an 01-04. I've pulled two four wheelers (weighs in at around 2000lbs +) and never had a problem, your not gonna pull it like a V8 or deisel but you can get the job done.

    Good luck with the search!

And an extra leaf I think
TRD was available in 4 cylinders also, the 3RZ to be exact.

The 2RZ was in the 2wd tacomas.
