I got a new 2006 Toyota Tacoma, trd sport, long bed, with an automatic transmission but I want it to be a manual transmission. Is it possible to switch the automatic to a manual transmission. And will it give me any problems ahead in the future?

Yes it is possible, everything is possible with time and $. It shouldn't cause any problems at all if properly installed (less problems in the long run due to auto tranny wears faster)

if you have to ask, you obvously wouldnt be doing the swap yourself, therefore it will be pricey, inwhich case your probably better off trading in for a MT

Here's my best guess: You need to find a manual tranny out of the same year (or production years) Tacoma to get this ball rolling. Then there's the problem of whether or not your four wheel drive is electronically activated. If so, then there may be computer issues. As it stands though, if and when you complete your swap (correct mounts, running the stick and 4x4 shifter through the floor where your current shifter is and do what you must to make it work, ie; drill new holes, etc.) then you need to have a Tech "flash" your computer so that it recognizes the standard tranny. There could be more to that, I'm not familiar with the process. I have never personally seen anyone swap over, but I can visualize it. Other than that, it would be a matter of the tranny meeting up properly with the t-case. Could be a big difference there, which means you would need the complete train, in which you need the standard transmission mated with the t-case and mount it all up. Sounds extensive, but it's possible. I'm an amateur when it comes to the drivetrain, so that's my two cents man. Good luck.

I don't think I will be able to find a long bed with a manual tranny.

A little tidbit: The transmission mount between the automatic and the standard are the same, so that's a good sign. :D

Here's a great parts supplier that I like to use that sells parts WELL below the usual prices: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php

I've bought a lot of parts off these guys and haven't had any issues because of price. Food for thought.

    Google :D

But really, this search site here is through google, through all toyota forums... so you don't need to type anything special in like "tacoma, or toyota"...
