I'm not sure what you mean by contrary to my assertion. I know my dogs well enuf that if my body ends up in one of their mouths - I'm not gunna freak, but I don't train them or play with them biting/chewing people. If I'm playing with a new dog near the owner and they get mouthy, I'll discourage and stop playing if they persist. If an unfamiliar dog shows up in a high stress situation - I'm neutralizing it ASAP - Either by getting the owner to step in before a bite happens or taking steps to defend myself from an attack.

Standing there staring at this upset dog while trying to detain the owner or calling animal control is not on going to cross my mind...I want a secure scene with as few hazards/potential issues as I can...and that dog is a HUGE potential hazard.

I'm just tired of crap pet owners hurting their animals by stupidity, abuse, or negligence. That knob created the bs situation and his poor dog died due to his own fault.

Too bad there wasn't a poll, I bet those older than 25 blame the owner and those younger than 25 blame the cop... generally speaking.

That didn't happen. just cause the dog left the car doesnt give them authority to shoot the dog.

    .
What irks the fuck outta me is that the guy clearly was trying to piss off the cops, in which he succeeded, when he knows they are coming for him, he immediately puts the dog in the car as if to avoid the cops saying he loosed the dog on them, he then turns right around and puts his hands behind his back, fully compliant, like it's exactly what he wanted to have happen. The cops are fucking dipshits for taking the bait, they should have just ignored the idiot and it's their fault for not having adequate situational awareness to not realize the car windows are far enough down for the dog (who is now clearly agitated), to easily jump through. They should have had the guy restrain the dog while they roll up the windows of something, any fucking fool could see that the dog was getting ready to go and they paid no attention at all.
I don't see anything that idiot is doing (at the the moment where the annoyed decide to arrest him), that is clearly illegal, just taunting a cop is stupid sure, as long as he's not threatening the cops then I'm still not understanding what they are arresting him for. Just being a jackass is not a crime the last time i checked
I'm not taking anyone's side here, I'm just pointing out what both parties did wrong.

I'm not going to get hurt while trying to secure the scene, so if the need arises...Yes. It was not the officers first option.

And the cop should have known not to try to move towards the dog at that point. Pretty simple.

Didnt look like he charged them. A dog in defense never turns away from the threat. You see the dog turn away and sniff the ground until the cop made the move for the leash.

Tough debate for both sides of this story. After watching it though I grabbed my dog and gave him a big bear hug

You don't like facts do you?? He was asked to turn down the music in his car and tape from the other side of the street, which is a legal request for the police to make in order to continue their primary task of resolving an armed robbery. He declined to comply...That means he can be detained. (Thats a big word for handcuffed btw).

If the cops had a problem with being videoed....why would they leave the folks across the road rolling tape?? That guy was trying to make trouble and his actions octs his dog it's life in the end.

Do not agree. Dog came out of the car when the owner was blocked form view/being lead away. What happens when you turn to put the owner in the car?? You don't know and that means the dog is a variable that needs to be accounted for to ensure officer safety.

I did not see it as a threat. there were more than one cop there. One guy puts the suspect in the car the others keep and eye out. Seems pretty simple almost like something you should do in any situation.

The dog was sniffing the ground, thats not a threat. a threat is the dogs barking uncontrollably at you and snapping repeatedly. The dog made one snap in defense and now its dead.

So what? They don't know shit about the dog, don't know if he's rabid, been trained to fight, nothing, he's a threat, in a cop's mind, he is a threat.

So you'd watch the dog at a distance of what 8-10 feet to see if he would charge at the officer on custody of the owner and then shoot when it did that?? Or you'd out your body in the way and take the mauling were it too occur??
