    Hey folks

Just want to check with you and see if you think 24k for a 2009 double cab TRD Off Road with 50k miles is a fair deal. It is in really good condition. 1 owner. Clean CarFax.

Let me know what you think.

    Cheers

Is it a trade? Check black book and Nada and average. That is pretty close to what dealer gave for it. I had exact truck and dealer marked it up by $3500. I do not think they got that for it. I was going to list mine for $20k but when dealer offer plus tax break got close to that I said screw it I am trading.

I would say if your financing then buy new, if not offer around 21,500 would be fair.

interest rate smaller on new, possibly saving you the difference between used.

Why are lower interest rates given on new vehicles? And if I were to pay it off in a relatively short amount of time (say a year or so) would that matter?

not as much difference as there once was. Even loan lengths are longer now. You just need to get quotes and compare.

should say if you have a good credit score that makes a big difference. yes if you pay off early that could save you thousands in interest.

If you are not paying cash for it, I would look hard at the various financing options. I use Bankrate.com to see the best rates in my local area. Compare the total cost between financing used and financing new. Toyota financial usually has very competitive rates for new and certified-used vehicles. The dealer finance managers have access to other funding sources that may be less expensive than you can arrange directly from the bank. Toyota runs frequent regional promotions to sell vehicles that are moving slowly at any given time. Patience can pay in the thousands.

Also consider the warranty coverage included with, and available for, each vehicle. You can get much better warranty coverage for a Toyota certified used truck than a non-certified truck. In some ways, it is better than the new vehicle warranty.

Buy used and let someone else take the depreciation hit. If you shop around you can get a good rate for a used vehicle. BTW I bought a 2009 MGM Double TRD off-road with sunroof and 34k miles just after last Christmas and paid $23,400, I had preapproved financing through a local credit union for a 1.99% rate.

Thanks for the valuable info everyone. It seems, from all of the "what did you pay?" threads that 23.6k is too much for this vehicle so I'm sticking to my guns at 22k including all fees. If I they say no I will walk as I'm not in a hurry.

If this truck doesn't end work out I may opt to buy new in the next month or so, especially as the 14s start rolling out.

So another question I would like to pop is - how long should I wait if I go that route? It seems that there may be a dwindling supply of 2013 trucks with all of the options I want (TRD Off Road dbl cab 4*4) as time progresses. Is that a valid concern of mine or am I thinking about it wrong?

    Cheers

That's the reason I ordered a truck now for the 2013 in my hard to find configuration. But I got lucky, it happened to be both the end of the financial quarter (end of June) and the end of that month. So I was in as good as any position to get the price I wanted, and will be getting the exact truck I wanted too, since I had to order it.

I'd weigh your options, but I think if you're looking for something harder to find and have specific wants then consider buying sooner than later. It's only July, but as time goes on you'll see less and less 2013s on the lot.

no way I would give $24k for that truck. Dealer tried to sell me a 08 with 30k on it for $22.5. I said $20 and they cried about what they had in it. I said fine I want a new one. Got a new 09 for $2k more. As far as depreciaion goes. It does not really come in to play if you keep the truck a while and also with Tacomas. Now if you buy and want to sell within a year or 2 different story. I think if there is a big diff on the new model you might see a price drop with some of the old ones that hit the market. We will see. I read he article on 2014s but not sure I believe it.

I'm with you. Was it on this forum that I read that car dealerships earn most of their money via used car sales? The markup on these seems to be very high at dealerships and I am pretty much convinced that I'm going to avoid them and look at for-sale-by-owner vehicles if this dealership doesn't accept 22k (including all fees). If I don't find one I like at a good price in the near future I will start looking at new trucks. Ninga edit: plus, working with a used car salesman has been less than satisfying to put it diplomatically.

Anyways, I appreciate all of your help and have certainly learned a lot through this site. Our combined knowledge is amazing and powerful and if you folks have more tips that you want to share it seems there are a lot of people who are listening. I know I am.

    Cheers to you
