AVS Bug Shield Question

For those of you with the AVS, did you bother putting on those little rubber bumpers onto the hood of your truck? Looking at the shield installed, I would think there is plenty of clearance between the hood and the shield. Just looking for some feedback from those of you with the AVS as to whether or not you have seen any evidence of rubbing. Thanks....

 

Whether it is AVS or most any other brand shield, with out the rubber bumpers the shield will vibrate against the painted hood and wear away the paint.

On my mine, the bumpers where on the shield, not the truck hood itself.
On the current truck I have now, I opted to leave the shield off.
It was a total PITA to clean under and made for a tight squeeze when opening the hood.


So far, I can't tell much difference with and with out it. The hood itself it pretty good at creating a good air flow to keep excess amounts or rain and bugs off. I think it was intentionally designed that way.

 

Here is how mine mounts though exhisting holes, there is enough room between hood and flector for me to fit my hand inbetween while wearing a cleaning mit. I don't have any rubber bumpers on and the flector has never touched my hood. Its been on since 07 and been through hurrican winds at interstate speeds.

 

Ditto. After mounting, I found that there was sufficient clearance and that the shield would never touch the hood. When trying to physically push the shield, it wouldn't even come close to touching the paint. I was afraid it would break. Maybe it's been redesigned to give more clearance than those who've stated that theirs have rubbed?

 

OP, have you noticed any rubbing since you installed your AVS bugflector? I just installed mine today and had this exact question. Seems the only place it may touch the hood is the edges, where they provided the 3M tape to protect where it touches. I'm thinking about not putting on the rubber stops

 

the only one I heard of rubbing is toyotas with the metal clips.

 

I have a WeatherTech bug shield, been on my truck since day 1. NO rubbing here and no paint missing because of the shield.

The bumpers are really only there in case your bug shield flexes all the way back and the top edge touches the hood.....I've never had that happen; in fact I noticed 2 of my bumper fell off and I'm not remotely worried about replacing them.

 

Negative, never installed the bumpers and have yet to witness evidence of any rubbing. Install the shield, toss the bumpers...

 

Thanks for the input. I'm opting to leave them off. Just using the little 3M strips to protect the edges of the hood!

 

I left mine off as well, no issues

 

Check the 3M strips now and then - on my 2010 the strips shifted somehow, and the clips ate the paint on the edge of the hood.

Didn't have any problems on my 2009, and decided not to put one one my 2012.
