looking to replace shocks and add spacer lift...I do not off road at all just like the height of a lift
Hey all...I have researched but most of what I keep hitting on are vibes that people can check based on 4wd models or older trucks.

please keep in mind this is a brand new truck 700 miles!

I installed a lift last weekend...5100s in front set to 1.75 and a 1.5" ICON aal

I am getting some slight vibrations from about 15-30mph and possibly again going down through that range but it is difficult to tell because I do not know if it is rough road or acceleration vibration...

the truck is brand new it only has 700 miles on it so I highly doubt there is anything that is worn out...before the problem goes on too long please help with checks on things to identify the vibration or possible solutions to this problem

with regard to the vibration...it is slight, nothing crazy, no excessive noise, almost a shudder in a way through that speed range

    I have seen heard

Carrier bearing drops...how much or what is invloved in that

retorquing everything that was installed will be doing that Friday

Wheel balancing...but they were balanced before the lift (so not sure that is a problem)

if you have any other thoughts or direction please lmk so I can check it out...would like to get rid of it asap...

If i am unable to find a solution is it ok to drive long term with a slight vibration or am I doing some major damage?

thanks for your time in helping me to figure this out...

My truck has had vibrations since I bought it. Even had the TSB done on it. I installed an OME lift today and it actually cured (at least for now) my vibration issue.

Carrier bearing drop is super easy. I wasn't sure what one was either until recently. It's the silver circle thing in the middle of your driveline that attaches to the frame. The drop kit just adds some spacers in between the frame and the bearing. Takes 5 minutes to install. It helps to keep your driveline angles stock.

You could also get some axle shims of varying degrees to help. they install between the leaf pack and the axle.

what is the cost of the carrier bearing drop kit?

I installed the Icon 3 leaf progressive used (chris 4x4s instructions) did not use anything to pull the axel so I dont think there is any reason the axel would have moved on either side...

I did retorque everything last night and found that the rear passenger side lower shock assembly was missing the nut on one side...so the bolt was just sitting there with only the pressure of the shock holding it in place...kinda scary...perhaps we just forgot to tighten it during the initial install or it somehow worked its way loose.

once I noticed that I went and got a new lock washer and bolt and placed it in there and it felt like a lot of the vibration actually went away...not sure if it is just wishfull thinking or not though because my installer and a fellow TW.com-er said the prusser on the lower shock bolt would have been keeping it in place...the first pic is the one missing the nut and washer.

who knows...i am still having some minor minor vibes but they are only at low speeds as mentioned 10-25mph or so and it is tough for me to tell if the vibes are just the stiffness of the aal at low speeds or if it is the driveline vibration

if the cb drop is cheap and simple I may try that...i do not want to do anything to involved (or irreversible) as the vibrations seem so minor I am not sure that it is worth putting much thought or stress into...

I will still take any other opinions that may be valuable

I got the OME FK29 kit, it was $11.79. Seriously took me 5 minutes to crawl under there, loosen one bolt, remove the other, put the spacer on one side, tighten it most of the way down, remove the other bolt, put the other spacer in and tighten both nuts down. super easy.

So do you think that they carrier bearing drop kit help your vibration issue or the entire lift over all?

thanks for the link I think I might check it out since the cost is so minimal in the install seems easy...

the more I Drive the more I am starting to narrow down the issue it seems that it has by rations only when its under a certain amount a load in first and second years once I get into 3rd gear and above I have no vibration issues so I'm not sure if its a driveline vibration issue or if its just perhaps a transmission issue and which is a little bit rougher in those gears mainly the problem comes up when it transitions from first to second year under some acceleration...

and just to be clear the vibration is so minor that everyone to get in my car says that they can barely feel it or that they don't feel it at all so its nothing like completely shaking the dash or anything of mini vibration stories that I've heard I'm just trying to narrow down what the problem might be and remedy it if its possible...

I have no way of knowing if it was the lift or the carrier bearing drop that fixed the issue for me since I put them on at the same time.

Can't hurt to try it. It's less than 15 bucks and 5-10 minutes of your time.

I think all Tacomas except for the standard cab have the carrier bearing. It'll work on your truck.

    ok...thanks!

my brother in law has a an identical taco minus the lift I am going to drive his to see how bad my vibes are...

if they are bad I will be dropping the $30 for the CB drop kit parts and shipping...if it solves the minor vibes though, it will be $30 well spent.

another thing I thought of is that I have a Flowmaster 50 delta flow (muffler swap) would/could that be affecting anything that would give me a vibration at low speeds...I have noticed I am getting the vibes during acceleration and deceleration in the low speed range.

Any idea if these vibes could be from the muffler swap...the reason I mention this is because my vibes areon aacceleration and deceleration at low speed...trying to eliminate possibilities.

This has not been mentioned yet but you might want to make sure that the balancing was done with the Toyota adapter.. I have heard some shops do it without the spacer and it causes the wheel to be off balancing so what was originally thought to be balanced correctly, is not.

Have you ordered the carrier bearing kit yet? Not sure why you're so against spending $30 after spending the money to lift your truck. Acceleration and deceleration is when your driveshaft is most likely to vibrate.

not that I'm against spending the $30 for the carrier bearing drop kit I just want to be sure before I do it that's what's needed because in a way I don't want to keep modding and modding and modding and not finding what the problem is...I am narrowing down the issue though and am most likely going to order the CB drop this morning...and here is why: yesterday I helped my sister haul a one (or so) hundred pound barbecue from a local town and while the barbecue is in the back of the truck I assume putting some weight on the bed changing the angle of the drive line slightly the vibes pretty much went away so I am assuming that the CB drop will do something similar with no load in the back

I recently installed 5100's set at 1.75 and have a rotational type vibration between 30-50mph. The only thing done to the rear is the TSB leaf kit. As soon as I took my truck off the lift and drove it, the vibration was present. The alignment helped the vibration a bit, but it's still there. Can the driveline angles change with only lifting the front?

Thanks TW. I just installed the OME FK29 kit and it made a significant improvement. I was having vibe at 5 - 10 mph which gnawed at me every time I drove my truck and made me question buying a Taco. Now I look forward to driving my truck again. BTW I am running 5100's with OME 884 coils.
