Who makes that elevated cross bar rack on the bed? Don't think I've seen that one yet.

BTW, nice On One's! Is the black one an Inbred or Scandal?

Thanks! The black bike is actually a cleared raw finish (looks dark grey), it's a Inbred Summer Season.

The rack? I made it. Square tubing, some angle iron and powder coating. Works with the factory rail system and doesn't tie up the bed cleats.

I'd be afraid of dirt getting between the tailgate and pad and rubbing causing scratches and scuffs. Have you had any issues like that?

Haven't seen it mentioned here yet (searched thread) but 1UpUSA makes the BEST, most bomb-proof, steal-proof, all aluminum hitch mount on the market. Not cheap, but worth every single penny! And they are modular. Easiest mount and dismount made and is so rock solid that you don't EVER have to worry about the bike once it's on! I will eventually add a second to mine (if I can get my wife to start riding!) when I need it. And yes, it will accommodate road bikes and 29ers.

No I have not had any issues with that but I can see where you are coming from. I frickin love mine I ride a lot and it is so nice being able to just throw the bikes on the pad and go! no tiedowns or anything. I had one on my old truck and I never had issues with dirt scratching the tailgate but I guess its possible. Even when your wheelin though the tailgate gets the least amount of dirt on it out of anywhere else. Just my 2 cents... I love the thing!!! good luck

there is a rack out there that I recently saw when I was at the Sea Otter Classic mt. bike festival this year and it was AMAZING it had 2 or 4 bike option with a pull out bike stand built onto it so in between races or rides you don't need to bring a stand!!!! all anodized beautifully aswell... but I forgot what company it was ;(

Hi All- Does anyone know if the Thule Apex tilt down hitch mount rack will clear a tacoma tailgate when they are both down?? Trying to decide between the Thule Apex or Apex Swing, and would hope the tilt down wouldn't interfere with tailgate when it's down, for unloading camping stuff, etc. Any help would be appreciated from those who have had one--- merchantmarine, did you say you had one on your tacoma?

i use my arms, set it and lay it down in the back of my taco. if i have both bikes i do the same.. nicely with a furniture pad between the two, quick and easy. its amazing how tough a mountain bike is or how tough we are on it in the trails....then.....we delicately pick it up like a fragile egg and put it on a rack that cost half as much as the bike. just sayin':D

I just throw my bike in the bed. I'll chain it to the little d-ring lookin jank in the side of the bed to keep people from stealing it if I'm in a bad area. Other than that, I'm not worried about it.
Not going to pay for a bike rack when I picked my bike up off the side of the road for free.

I lash them standing up, one to the left side of the bed, and one to the right. I use the bed rail cleats with a couple of bungies.

We don't go that far, so I don't take the front wheels off; I just drive with the tail gate down.

    Nice and easy,

That called not taking care of your stuff... I ride my bike hard and if it breaks it breaks. I'm not going to take a chance and have it break or scratch unnecessarily just throwing it in the bed. Doesn't make sense. Buy some straps and stand it up if you're looking for a low cost and easy mode of transportation. It's what I use all the time. And it looks cool.
