What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Been wheeling in nc at uwharrie off road park. That was awesome. Would love to go to rousch creek in pa. Going to a place that's called potts mountain end of the month. Lot of ledges and obstacles. Should be fun.

Beats Kansas, flatter than my chest, one minute its 105 degrees the next its -10 degrees and snowing, lots of drunk bored asshats, and you have to practically go out of state to even find someone who wheels their trucks, i think ill go to your state

Come to find out my 2007 Optima Red Top took a crap so I am done with Optima batteries cause this is my 3rd one for my truck so I am going to give this a try (Duralast Platinum AGM battery):

Not the best picture, but I got a headrest mounted gun rack from Bass Pro. Meh...needs work on the fitment with the seat covers. Need to switch them around so the racks are on the other side of the seats for the longer rifles.

How's that gun rack work with folding the seats forward to get stuff in the back?

 

So what is the whole seat setup again? What brand isthe tactical seat cover and the gunrack part

 

I've never heard of anyone having problems with optima batteries. Maybe something else is killing them?

 

It definitely limits how much you can fold the seats.

The M.O.L.L.E. covers are made by Smittybuilt. They don't cover the whole seat, so I have an off the shelf camo seat cover under it.

Idk how much I like it yet. May have to break down and bolt one to the rear window frame. I'll give it some time and see how it works out.

 

I think your tow truck driver was either lazy or dumb to the fact you own a 4x4... you need a flat bed only.

I have had issues with 3 different 4x4 vehicles that have needed to be towed at some point and NEVER did a tow truck driver use anything other than a flat bed.

 

ive actually heard the same thing.... ive been replacing alot of red tops at work. someone told me they arent made the same anymore? whatever that means...

 

I have owned 2 red tops in other trucks and own a yellow top currently.

I have been happy wit them and have not had any of them fail in anyway.

 

Are you thinking of AWD? That is flat bed only.

But if you're not engaged in 4WD I don't see why it matters. They towed my truck (when the ignition lock cylinder STB) just like that

Yeah, there's a battery thread in this 1st gen forum that explains it. Optima, both red and yellow, are manufactured by someone else now.

I got the Sears Diehard Platinum, mostly for the warranty, and it's been working great.

 

I have never owned an AWD just a jeep and 2x toyota 4x4 that have needed to be towed and they ask specifically when they send a driver if its a 4x4. If you notice a 2WD vehicle is always towed with the free wheels on the ground.

Whether or not its in engaged it should not be used as free wheels.

But then it somewhat questions when I see stuff like jeeps getting towed behind motorhomes... all 4 wheels on the ground just cruising along, They must disconnect something

 

It was questioned but like it said the 4wd was not engaged and the front wheel free spin. He was worried too of it locking up. But it didn't. Now if it was AWD. It'll be a issue. And 7 years for a Optima battery is not bad the last two lasted 3 years each.
