    That..... will not buff out.

Says the driver of the Tacoma was airlifted to hospital. Hope he made it ok. From that one picture after extraction, the cab looks to be in pretty decent shape. (alebit heavily removed from where the frame is, from the looks of it)

Would be ironic if the trucker was hauling Tacoma frames.

That brings back a lot of bad memories. I hate to pull up on scenes like that. Here's to hoping the driver made a full recovery.

*Edit* On a side note. It looks as if the guys on that Dept. did a really good job with the extrication. Hose line deployed, stabilized, etc.

Driver must have been pinned pretty bad. They chopped the whole roof off!

That's pretty common. If it isn't a simple door pop and the driver is pinned then removing the roof gains you a lot of working room. We can have the roof taken off within 2 mins in most cases. Main concern with modern vehicles right now is all the airbags. You can disconnect the battery but some are still active with a capacitor for another 10 mins or so. If you ever remove the A-Pillar panel inside a 2 gen Tacoma you will notice the airbag sitting right there. That is why we always "try" to cut 2 inches above the cowl an no further. Each year brings out new models of airbag placement in vehicles. Extraction has truly turned into a science.

Those guys did a good job!

Chopping off the roof is really a safety thing. While the driver may not have been in the best of conditions, the extrication is the largest concern, and where sometimes the person can get injured worse. Removing the roof allows the safety personnel to move the driver the least amount to get them onto the backboard. Prayers to the driver for a full recovery.

    ^^^ good to know.

Good point about the airbags. As if they didn't have enough to worry about already!

I saw this a couple years ago and thought using the rear door as a platform seemed sketchy.

    Yep^

Extrication is literately removing the vehicle from the driver. Not the other way around in most cases.

Wow....how anyone survived that is quite an amazing thing. Great work by FD and EMS to get the patient out quickly. Hope he recovers.

Haha... You know what? It wouldn't surprise me looking at them a bit closer.

Fatal last night in Northridge (north end of LA basin).
Van, car, and a Speedway Blue X-Runner were involved.
They said road rage was a factor, van and the car ended up nose to nose in the street and the Tacoma overran a bus stop loaded with people.
