Hey no kidding Erik! That's how I met him--he was a fixture (more or less) at AstraZeneca when he was with Decco. Good guy and wicked mad skills

 

Allen screws huh. Maybe you will be drilling small holes. Are they countersunk? I had to drill 1/2" holes and the bolt heads stick down. It would have been nice to have something that would not get hung up or damaged on rocks.

 

They're the same ones Allpooh uses on their sliders. It's a countersunk hole with a tapered screw.

 

Also a nut tab for the back side

 

What is this curved piece you speak of? Link?

 

A screw? Like a self tapping screw? Are they pretty beefy? its nice having a solid fastener on the bottom, i would think the bottom fasteners rely on shear strength and the ones on the side are mostly tensile stength. Having the 1/2" grade 8 bolts for both the side and bottom is a somewhat reassuring knowing that half the weight of the truck is on one slider. Im sure the allpoohs can support the weight of the truck also, im just interested in the engineering of them vs. other options.

 

That's crazy. I was a plant engineer at Lonza and he did a ton of stuff for me there. Is he not with Decco anymore? I am a reliability engineer for Genzyme now and don't get into the fab stuff.

 

Yea he left Decco a little while ago I guess but he's already with another place, can't remember the name just now (still welding etc.). No shit on Lonza eh? Thats where I am right now! I must have come to their party after you shipped out. I want out now too--Genzyme would be a great place to land

 

Naw more like a carriage bolt except with a tapered head and an allen fitting. They thread into large square nut tabs you place on the other side of the frame rail. I'll get some pics up when I'm home again...

Torsion is the game you play with sliders and the frame. Alone, the bolts through the side of the frame don't do too much, but with the slider bolted through the bottom you're not allowing the slider the bend up and away from the frame and transferring a lot of the load to the side bolts. Allpooh has been engineered (smart guys applying the math) to take the weight of the truck, as have the ones you bought.

You can always add more fasteners, but never take away from what is instructed.

Curious to see if that will adapt to my harbor freight farm jack ? Or is it high lift specific ?

Evan I think when I finally drill for the bottom I will use carriage bolts. That might help with the profile

Good idea. But how do you keep them from spinning when cranking down the nut? Im guessing you wouldn't use the carriage bolts with the square part under the head.
