Different Horsepower Ratings for 05 and 06 Tacos??

Has anyone wondered why toyota has rated the 2006 taco V6 with 236 horsepower verse the 2005 taco has 245. I doubt that you can tell a difference but to me they should have bumped that up instead of down. If anyone knows why they did this I would love to know.....

 

It's the same engine. Correct me if I'm wrong but here in the US the difference is the emissions. This emissions change reduced the HP. Was 245 and now is 236.

 

That bull bar looks great on your truck MAXTacoma. Gives it a tough look. Do you mind me asking where you got it and how much it set you back?

 

Thats what I heard as well, if anyone knows how to get the HP back up to 245 please let us know. I would love to get another 10 HP.

I really like the way it looks to except the fact that every Tacoma has a bull bar that looks like mine, but anyways my friend works at a truck place (Holman Motors) and I was able to get the bull bar for $325 which is discounted because I think that it usually cost over $425... You can prolly get it off ebay for the same price I paid if you look around...

 

Thats the plan (CAI and exhaust). I would like to do headers to tail pipe but not sure how well the headers work and which companies offer them. Do you know if MAC makes any?

 

is the torq the same on the 05 and 06

 

The horse power for the 2006 and up V6 is rated at 266 lb ft. while the 2005 is rated at 282 lb ft. so yes the torque went down as well. This is throught all of toyota cars and trucks. the Avalon, Camry, 4Runner, Tundra they all had lower power ratings.

 

I think everyone got derated in '06 or '07. My 2005 Outback XTwent from a rating of 250HP/250lb ft down to about 241 HP this year.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the new procedures also relate to fuel grade? Seems like I recall reading that if the HP figures were based on 91 octane fuel, the mfg. had to specify this requirement on the vehicle. Under the old standard, they'd test the engine with premium fuel and optimal tuning which would skew the HP figures up, but in the real world, running 87 octane produce significantly lower numbers.

Would an aftermarket catalytic converter help as well?

 

Yes it would, how much I can't say, but anytime you can get more flow you should get more power and sometimes better MPG. Just make sure it will pass your emission laws for inspection.

 

I work for Toyota. Has nothing to do with the engine. The Automotive industry is moving to a different HP rating for all new cars. Sorry forgot the name.
