Need a little help deciding on options

New to the forum need so help on picking out options on a new Tacoma

Looking at a 2013 Tacoma Sport Access cab V6 auto trans with tow package. Is there any other options really worth getting? Would I be way better off getting manual tranny over auto? or off road package over sport? This will be my daily driver it might hit the dirt once in awhile but for the most part I just really want a dependable 4WD.

 

Sport will give u color matched grill mirrors and door handles and a hood scoop a few other little things the off road will get you a rear diff locker so whatever u think meets your needs more, as far as transmission I was dead set on a manual then I bought it and it had nothing but problems slave cylinder, throw out bearing, clutch pedal, the shifter bushings are noisy if I had to do it again I would do a auto even tho the manual is more fun.

 

^ Ok thanks I'll stick with the auto trans then. Ya I'm not sure if I rear diff locker is important or not for my personal needs The one reason that draws me to wanting the sport is I really like the way the Tacoma's look with hood scoop.

 

Ya the scoop and color matched parts look great ill end up putting a sport hood on my off road most likely, if you are buying new have them show you the invoice when deciding on price

 

Also when blue booking the sport package give you more value as well by a few hundred bucks

I beg to differ on the tranny input. The auto TRD off road that we have as the company car is crap. Shifting is erratic. Always seems to be in the wrong gear than what you want/need. Seems to always be searching for a different gear when cruising on hwy. I'm glad I went with the manual for my personal truck. Hadn't owned it long enough to comment on the reliability of the components but its not noisy or grindy. Smooth with firm clutch pedal feel. Grabs solid but not too harsh. Not sporty like a sports car but def. sportier than what I'd expect in a truck...like my dodge ram 1500 5spd.

 

Sounds about right on the quote. Key difference between the offroad and sport are the chrome vs color matched grille and rear bumper and 16" all terrain vs 17" road tires.

 

One more thing to consider regarding the tow package is if you want to go ahead and get the 7 to 4 pin adapter. You can get them anywhere but I opted to just get it at the same time. It'll come in a plastic bag shoved into the glove lol. My trailer is a dinky 5x7 that uses 4pin so def needed it.

 

Iam a salesman ask for the invoice paper there is a lot more money to play with than 1600 bucks

 

Our I termed prices are always less but there is still money they can go down without using rebates your best deal is gettin the truck for invoice pricing minus rebates they're ill do it if you hold your ground

Yeah they could easily come down to the mid to low 28s without any problem. Take a look at the 2013 pricing thread to see what others were able to get. Just remember this isn't the last Tacoma to be made. Make them work for your business.

 

This is what you do when u sit down to do number you say let me see the invoice and they either will bring it out or they won't most likely they will if not go to a different dealer or say im not talking numbers till i see this...this shows the mark up from what they bought for once you have personally seen the invoice you tell them you want to pay invoice minus rebates that's your offer and if they don't do it walk out they will call you in 10-20mins saying the deal is good trust me on this

 

It's still better than the 6 speed.
That has not been a trouble-free trans... do a search on it.

 

Somebody prolly beat the snot of that tranny. I wouldn't judge by a company car because a personal daily driver will be better cared for.

 

I drove that company car with 0 miles on it. I work at TTC (Toyota technical center)...well actually Calty, the design studio. We got this 2013 model before it was on the showroom floor. Its not your typical beater Joe schmoo company truck. But to your point the truck prob isn't 100% right since the brakes on it are super sensitive and nose dive the car even with the lighter tap on the pedal.

 

So I've been set on a black Tacoma sport access cab and the dealer kept trying to push a red one on me since he didn't have that color in stock. But My hearts set on black so now he's going to order one from the factory for me. As far as options goes I've decided on trd exhaust and cold air intake. But now I just realized that there's a trd supercharger option I need to contact him on pricing because I'm not sure how much that will cost installed from the factory it may be out of my budget but if I can pull it off I may go that route

 

It will be a good chunk of change I think just parts is like 3-4 grand
