Anyone know protocol for transferring ownership of long guns?

My dad in Rhode Island has a couple of guns he'd like to give to me - Franchi 612 and a Ruger .308 - seems as though all I will need is a bill of sale to prove that they're indeed mine.

    Anything else?

Can .223 actually blow that stuff up? I've heard its hard with the smaller caliber, but then again I've never blown it with anything less than .40 :)

Sounds good. What is your schedule next week?

I've shot it with both .223 and .17HMR. Both do a damn good job.

There is no long gun registration in Washington state. Most "free" states are this way. I ship stuff all the time UPS person to person with zero paperwork. In fact I've mailed stuff to myself to get around having to take them on a plane. If getting them from a questionable source, it's always a good idea to run a trace on them (the Sheriff usually does this for free) BEFORE you buy, once they are "yours" if they are stolen or whatever they go to the evidence locker and you just lost your $. Obviously this isn't an issue if it's coming from a known source.

Isn't it technically illegal to buy or transfer a gun from one owner to the other if you live in different states? Not sure how you'd get caught though... There is absolutely no tracking of firearm ownership in Washington state though. As far as I'm aware. NWFirearms has a good write up on it.

Also it's perfectly legal if you get it shipped in "two different parts separately". Did that with a forum member.

Don't know if this accurately shows what you need to transfer from state to state. Since its an ownership transfer, I'd talk to a dealer about it. He might suggest you do a normal nics check like a sale and be done with it.

I'm still trying to decide what I plan to do with some of mine , and now dads too.

    Haha nope..

Amazing what happens when you ask your Dad nicely for something, maybe it was that "Aw, gee come on Dad, please.." voice?:D

Needless to say had to pick up a hard case to take said "things" on the plane, scored a sweet hard case w/foam lining for $15 at thrift store today!

Called the ATF Liaison for WA State - basically said what you all have. As long as the gun sale is documented by a Bill of Sale (with serial #'s) - everything is above board.

Airline criteria may vary by carrier - US Airways requires that all firearms be declared, (LOCKED) hard shell case, w/no loaded clips - ammo limits per person/overall weight as well.

Damn ballast on one of my Kragen 7" HIDs went out.. Got them from the GTLightingUSA group buy. Been chasing the owner around for a new ballast under warranty for about the last 4 months, finally gave up. Suppose that's an accepted risk when buying mass-produced Chinese (shite?).

I'm going to be taking off my retrofitted OEM headlights when I get back, tired of messing with them. FXR projectors w/BHLM and Phillips 4300k bulbs. I'll be down in Seattle a few times next week. If anyone is interested I'll do $200. Couple of issues with them.. Shoot me a PM.

Found some Hella 4000s that have been converted to HIDs on Craigslist, guy wants $200

Set of Lightforce 240s in PDX for $200

You thinking about getting the 240s? Ive been using the LightForce 170s for 3 years now...no problems, but they are halogen. Pretty good lights IMO.
