Rear end squeak

I have an 05 PreRunner Sport with LSD and just lately I have noticed a very rapid squeak coming from the back of the truck. I only does this at low speeds (under 20mph) and only under acceleration at low speeds. I will check the rear diff level tonight but after that I am out of ideas. I did change the rear diff fluid about 6,000 miles ago

Anyone else have any ideas?

 

Did you put LSD additive in the rear end as well?
Also have a look at your hangar bearing (if the prerunner has one...). My S10 did the same thing it lower speeds.

 

Yep did include the additive, bought it from the dealer. What/where is the hanger bearing?

 

U-joints?

Take a look at your driveshaft thoroughly.... your gas tank shielding could be bent like mine was.

Also ttyler is referring to the carrier bearing on the driveshaft I believe. Its halfway down the driveshaft.

 

If you have a 2 piece driveshaft its a bearing mounted to a crossmember on the frame of the truck holding the back end of the forward (transmission) shaft.

Alright so I crawled under the truck a few nights ago to lube everything up only to find no grease fittings anywhere on the drive line. I checked all sides of all the U joints. Where it connects to the transmission, the rear diff and at the carrier bearing. What gives?

Also I was able to recreate the squeak by pushing up on the drive shaft. The squeak is coming from the rear springs which tells me the drive shaft has some pretty good vibrations going on for it to move up and down so much that is causing the rear springs to squeak.

The rear springs squeak when I lift up on the back bumper but not when I push down. I got some silicone lube and soaked all of the moving part of the springs but it still squeaks. I think I may have to take them apart and grease them up.

Is there anything I can do to correct the drive shaft vibration short of buying a new Tom Woods shaft?

 

Use a screwdriver to wedge between the leafs and pry the leafs appart so that the silicone spray will cover the pads between each leaf.

 

I can feel it in the cab. I feel it under throttle pressure, then it eases slightly when I take my foot off the gas.

Yes, it increases with speed and then goes away at about 30 mph.

 

I have done that, i put the rear end up on jacks and spun the shaft and didn't hear the squeak. But when I pushed up on the drive shaft at the carrier bearing with the rear end on jacks I head the squeak from the springs.

That is what leads me to believe that maybe axle wrap is causing the drive shaft to vibrate similar to this.

I have been thinking of a rear AAL and maybe this is the perfect time since I may take the leaf spring apart to lube it up. That should also help with axle wrap right?
