I think you missed my point, I was saying that for him...they were a perceived upgrade / improvement. You may not put a UTG optic on anything...but, for him it was an upgrade. I wasn't attempting to piss in your kettle...I was trying to point out that it's not always important or polite to piss in someone's kettle.

Larue makes great optic mounts. They are the SDHQ of AR's

I was hoping to perhaps get him to return an inferior product, spend a couple dollars more and get quality budget items.

There is a real difference between inexpensive and cheap.

Like I said earlier...some people are going to take a toilet paper tube, spray paint it black, and stick it on their rifle with duct tape. To each their own...I've given up trying to convince people that saving up for better stuff is a better investment long-term. Too many folks these days are after the instant "cool factor" gratification...and, I just let them do what they want.

However, if they show up to one of our classes with that sort of stuff...we usually send them packing and tell them to stick to shooting tin cans in the woods...rather than having to deal with helping them try and fix stuff throughout an 8 hour class.

As my father once said, "It's enough to know that you know they're wrong, you don't have to let them know you know they're wrong."

Ok guys, i got my BCG in my rifle today, i oiled it before install and it feels fine, only problem is the bolt won't hold open on a empty mag, i tried with 4 different mags and it still doesn't work.
the Bolt hold feels a little sticky, so i oiled it and it sill doesn't want to catch.
    any ideas?

What buffer and spring are you running and what length is the gas system?

Standard (unmarked) buffer, mid length gas system.
I think it's fixed though, I separated the upper and lower and actuated the bolt catch about 50 times, and now it's nice and smooth, where before it felt a bit rough.
I wasn't able to shoot my gun to see if its fixed though.

Will do, I'm headed down to the gulf for 2 weeks and might not be able to shoot my gun before next year.

So you have a set of kings on your truck, glass fenders, custom LT suspension and you buy the crappiest accessories possible for an AR? WTF.

ive spent all my money on my truck. eventually ill be able to buy a better optic but for now anything above 300 is way too much. if you have suggestions for a optic for a decent price im more then willing to look into it. i think i will be returning this optic.

Vortex optics makes pretty good optics for a reasonable price..To me its hard to beat a Larue mount with a Leupold optic..

I'm spending 1,000 on an optic because I know I didn't drop 1500 bucks into a quality rifle to put a shit optic on it, last I checked that's what you use to hit the target, kinda what the guns PURPOSE is.... Acog ftw, upgrading from my eotech

My P.E.P.R. mount with a Leupold VX-1 2x7 33mm has withstood over (400) rounds through the 458 SOCOM. Cost right at around $300 for both. The recoil is equivalent to a 20 gauge shotgun when we use 300 grain bullets and a 12 gauge recoil when we use a 405 grain bullet. So the mount and the scope have held up nicely so far.
