Hey guys, so just today, 2nd day of owning truck, tonight actually, I started hearing this strange whistling noise coming from the front of the truck. It starts to fade in at 40mph and gets a bit louder at 46ish mph. I'm really worried since I just bought the truck that there might have been some unseen transmission problem. Drove great and sounded normal and quiet during the test drive. It seems louder when I have the windows down, actually it is much louder. Windows up I can barely hear it. Anyone have the same problem or know what it might be?

I had a random whistling sound and it turned out to be a siezed caliper. Try gently applying the brakes when you hear it and if it stops that will at least narrow it down if it stops.

Huh I will have to check that out. I also figured it might be wind noise too, maybe through a window seal. I'll check the brakes out for sure though.
-Edit-@127.0.0.1 yeah it really sounds like wind to me but it is hard to say

Ugh. Ok so if I remember correctly it's a small issue, something to do with the weatherstripping around the hood/grille. Apparently some of the trucks being pumped out have a little gap that causes a "whistling" noise.

I say ugh because there was a thread some guy had brought up about this and said the dealer couldn't fix it, so he had a lemon, and wanted to sue Toyota about it.

Alright so checked the brake caliper thing and nothin'. Still whistles when the brake is in at over 40mph. It really sounds like wind more than anything. The truck came with an ARE hard tonneau cover; could that be making the noise? Its possible the truck has been making the noise all along and I just never turned the radio down and listened until a day ago.

Some of this Some of that
If its a whistling noise it's probably a gap somewhere on the body.. Mine makes it too but I don't care about it haha. Try masking tape over different seams until it goes away.

I just picked up my new Tacoma on June 8. It also has a random whistling noise I haven't been able to track down.

I used a pressure washer to clean my truck about 2 weeks ago and I accidentally got too close to my cowl with it. My truck whistled for about 2 days and then went away. Check to see if there are any rocks or anything in the cowl that may cause the whistle.

Got the idea from another post but it worked. 1/4" poly tubing from Home Depot inserted in the top channel of all three hood/grill rubber seals stopped the noise for me. I had the exact same symptoms. This cure makes the hood slightly harder to shut but no more whistle, and that thing was annoying, especially for a brand new truck.

Not sure if this is your issue, but my truck used to squeal like mad when I was coasting at higher speeds. Like a metal-on-metal squeal. Took it to three diff mechanics and they couldnt just figure it out. One of the guys just changed my brake pads.... I was almost at the point where I was just going to sell the truck.

Turns out, I just needed to grease my zerks...... Solved the problem instantly... Not sure whens the last time you did it, but it might be worth a shot.
