I wanted to say hi, introduce myself, and ask some questions.

I'm looking to buy my first Tacoma (had a 2001 Tundra, and 2007 Camry). I've got a couple of dealerships down to 34,800 for a black crewcab Baja, and 35,400 for a white crewcab Baja (I'm in CT). Both 2013s. I like both colors, so no worries there. I don't have the garage/tools to do any modding myself, so I like the baja. Hopefully everything works out so I don't have to worry about future upgrades for a while.

The prices appear to be good (according to Truecars and some others) but the dealers seemed to hit these prices really easy. Do you think they are getting incentive to clear stock for the 2014s? Should I try to get them lower? They seem set on these prices, so I'm trying to figure out how to squeeze them for a little more. My trade in isn't worth much, so I'm thinking of asking for some upgrades (locking tailgate, remote start) at dealer cost. What do you guys think? Should I just say screw it, and look at regular TRDs that are going for around 29k?

I'm glad I can finally stop lurking and start posting. :D

Usually if you get to the point where you are now and you tell them that you are just not where you need to be, and you offer a final offer of say $500 less, with the agreement that you will "sign today", and then proceed to leave, they will call you back and seal the deal. It helps if you have more than one dealership that you can use against each other, which sounds like it is the case.
Why is the white one more $$ than the black? If they are at 2 different dealers, and you want the white one, get a written quote from Dealer A for the black one at $34.8k, and go to Dealer B and say you want the white one for that price.

    Good luck.
By the way, a lot of guys on here will advise against the Baja version because they prefer to buy a base model and build it themselves with "better" quality parts than what is used on the Baja. It all depends on what you will use the truck for and how much time and effort you want to put into it. The Baja is great for everyday use if thats the look you want (I like it), but the regular TRD will probably do the same job for less money, although it does not have all the add-ons, some of which can be seen as unnecesary bling by some.

Except for having the same crappy leafs at the rest of the Tacomas, the Baja's have some pretty nice suspension. I wouldn't mind having one myself. I don't think you'll be able to get too much more but if you do like Ferdie said, give them a final price $500 less or ask for about that much in accessories and sign the deal. It's hard to get super low prices on Tacomas.

Thanks for the quick reply!! I do have an email with the quote for the Black one so I will definitely use it.

Regarding TRD vs Baja, thanks for the heads up. I've spent a bit of time lurking here and I've seen that sentiment. My leg got wrecked a few years back when a drunk decided to play bumper cars with me and my motorcycle. Even if I had the garage, I'm not really able to do the work myself. If I get the Baja, I can finance the upgrades with the cost of the vehicle and the upgrades are covered under the factory warranty. I think its probably the best (if not ideal) situation for me presently. Thanks again. Hopefully the next couple of days I can sort this thing out and make a move on one of the trucks. :)

Once you add up the $ for the suspension, wheels, tires, exhaust, etc... You will see why the Bajas cost a little extra. It is a nice package.

I had an aftermarket suspension until I recently installed the Baja setup. The Baja setup is 1000x better than what I had before. It soaks up bumps and pot holes better than anything I have ever had.

I think you will enjoy it. Good luck on the purchase, it sounds like you are on the right track.

The baja has better shocks than 5100s. They're remote reservoir (5125s I think).

Not entirely accurate. Front bilsteins on baja are larger, springs better...but i believe rear shocks can bought outside of a dealership.

here comes the wave of misinformation, i will try and help add facts before it gets out of hand

bajas do NOT have bilstein 5100s
the rears are remote reservoir 5160s custom valaved for the Taco. yes, you can buy 5160s aftermarket, but they will not have the same valving as the Baja

the fronts are not available outside of Toyota. they are Bilstein 9100s.

the front bump stops are shorter, the rear has a brake line extension bracket.

the leafs are the regular 4 leaf pack.

lots of people will comment on something being better, but chances are they have never even ridden in a truck with this setup.

Baja rides much better than stock. I bought because when I added up all the components it was pretty much a wash. The ATs are what got me. I would have had to upgrade the tires anyway. You can get a better price. Do not get in a hurry and if possible wait to the end of the month. Go for 10% off MSRP.

Still I wouldn't buy one since Toyota won't sell them everywhere and the aftermarket has better shocks I mean is it worth 5,000 dollars extra for stuff you can buy cheaper if you look hard enough

you could buy the baja and sell some of the blingy parts you dont want.. i wish i would have bought a baja instead of the OR.. then i would have sold the TRD cat back exhaust and swapped it for a stock one.. and i probably would have sold the rims for something in black.. the baja is the only model that doesnt nose dive when you hit the brakes.. it is also the only model that has the homelink mirror

But why on earth would you waste your money on stock parts from Baja. You can get kings all around with uca's for how much that waste of metal is.

because they arent the stock parts you think they are.. bilstein 9100's are the same as king 2.5"s.. it comes with BFG AT's instead of BFG rugged fails.. i could do without the exhaust since it sounds like a ricer.. the rims can be sold and upgraded to something else if you dont like the look.. it comes with the homelink mirror.. and it all comes with a factory warranty.. just add UCA's and its like having a $2000 suspension

I do like the Baja I think it is a cool package but not worth the price I could build a better suspension with the money I saved over the package

Hey! Congrats on the upcoming purchase. This is my 6th Toyota pickup (13 baja access, manual). I traded in my 12 TRD OR. Huge difference. They've achieved that sweet spot when it comes to a modest lift that will take you lots of places off-road while maintaining the geometry of the ride and maneuverability. I took my baja to hollister and it handled so much better than my previous trucks. The front shocks are massive and well tuned, coils are stiff and progressive, and the rear tuned as well- less squirly (sp?) on washboards at high speeds as well. Plus- all warrantied. There's a lot to be said about technique and spotters than having every "best" mod in the book. Do what makes you happy and enjoy! :)

not quite $5k. You get the Baja credit. I would have lost money on swapping tires out so figure that in too. I could have kept the tires off my old truck but they had 30k on them. Plus I did not have a day to spend on doing the upgrades. Also upgrades would have been cash out of pocket and not financed at 1.29%. The only thing I feel like was a waste of money was the graphics. Add the discount from MSRP plus credit and the real cost of the pkg. was $4000.
