The problem is we don't see a WHOLE lot of snow - or rather I don't drive a whole lot of un-plowed roads. I'd say that we have maybe 5-7 sketchy snow days a year, and the rest of the time the plows stay pretty well on top of it. So, I would have a hard time justifying a second set of wheels/tires for a week's worth of driving. I'd much rather just get a set of good All Terrains (ie: Duratrac, BFG A/T) and take a little more time in the snow than I might have to with snow specific tires. Ideally, I'd just keep the stock wheels (for now) and throw some Duratracs on there. But again, I'd have a hard time justifying spending $800 to replace "perfectly good tires."

In light of Tacoma's shortcomings in this thread, has anyone (besides me) in the cold climate areas done the heated fucking mirror mod?

    :D

Being new to this community and seeing the responses to this post makes me start to think I should find a new place to go. What a bunch of high school level comments and replies. Why not re read the post and see the OP was new and use this to mention "check out post xyz about a DIY" instead of filling your own egos to lay in bed tonight with a smile on your face thinking "I really laid into that forum newbie, I'm so cool"

OP - I just purchased a limited 2013 and had the same gripes you did, after I did my home work but decided, as you did, it was worth living with.

And more then several people did not. Many people made assumptions about the OP from the get go.

I read every post, including the one where the OP stated sorry for stirring the hornets nest and the immediate replies of "its your attitude". I saw no attitude from the OP original post, just an observation that he was not happy about something and posted it on a "discussion forum".

My observation is that some people need to understand the difference between discussion, debating and belittling.

And your attitude and assumption that I did not read before posting just amplifies my first post.

I was one of the first people to jump on the OP's side and agreed with most of what he wrote. I also agree that there were a large amount of douche bags in this thread that immediately got defensive that the OP thought their vehicle of choice was a little lacking in creature comforts for a mid-sized truck that costs $35k (which it is - unarguably).

That being said, great way to introduce yourself to this forum.

If you can't handle it, go ahead and find a new one.

It all has to do with value added. If they spend the time on the engineering and the material, Is it going to sway that many people in the direction of the Tacoma away from another truck? Someone who cares that much about bells and whistles probably is not in the truck market. They spend more money on bells and whistles specific to the truck market: cargo area, suspension, ect. Things that a truck buyer might compare. I wouldn't want a truck that rolled off the lot exactly how I wanted it because there would be so many just like it and I wouldn't be unique. I think making a truck your own is have the fun of owning it.

That's retarded. Maybe you could start taking stuff off to make yours worse if you really care more about being special than having a nicer truck. Or, you could draw all over yours with Sharpie, because different is better, right?

I personally would love to have all those creature comforts. Obviously people aren't making buying decisions based on heated mirrors, but they would be really nice to have.

Wouldn't you like it if your truck had:
    - An option for heated/leather seats in all trim packages
    - Heated mirrors
    - Electronic seat control with memorized positions
    - Dual climate control
    - Enhanced interior lighting
    - Auto up/down windows
    - Illuminated 4x4 knob
    - Sun/moon roof
    - Etc...

You guys are total idiots (and liars) if you say you wouldn't mind having some of those additional features off the lot or at least available as options. Most would love to have the features, the rest would enjoy them but not care too much one way or another, and then a very small portion of idiots wouldn't want them.

And, considering that most, if not all of those features have been available on the 4Runner since 2003, which was the same damn vehicle as the Tacoma up until the 5th gen in 2010! That's 10 years ago that Toyota introduced these features on the SAME platform as the Tacoma but has decided not to bring them over. And, if I'm honest, those things alone almost pushed me into looking more closely at the 4Runner because I don't use the bed much. I ended up with the Taco because I decided the bed was more important.

Some of you guys are completely out of touch...

You know it's funny. When I was shopping this truck, I knew about the lack of locking capability on the tailgate. That was a concern till I found out there were other options.

I did not however, realize that certain components didnt have illumination or indicators on the dash. I actually thought about this last night driving the truck for the first time in the evening. But it's not something that "drives me crazy" just something I noticed compared to previous vehicles, like 1-touch windows, the electric roll down of the rear window like on the Tundra, no auto climate control, Etc.

If nothing else, you have the overhead light that shows you the keyhole, 4x4 setting, AND cup holders! Eventually you'll learn them in the dark too. No worries. I'm more concerned about learning to use all those damn buttons on the left side of the wheel and understanding when and how to use each feature in conjunction with the 4h and 4l settings.

That--and getting some locks for the tail and spare...

Forgive my late night rants of the WHOLE forums not being worth it, I went a bit off the grid in my thinking last night, wish I could blame an alcohol rage, but it was just me. As a WHOLE, this forum is a great place for information and I have read a lot of informative posts. And no matter where you go there will always be a hand full of topic replies that "your thinking is wrong i'm always right". I just let it get to me and shouldn't have.

    My Apologies

Lol, I never understood people saying they never want any of this stuff either. If it was added at the same cost as the Tacoma already sits at, people would be total liars if they said they still didn't want all that stuff. Shit, people buy super base model Tacomas and still throw in cruise control and wiper stalks.

Only 1 of the 4Runner features I feel isn't in the Tacoma for whatever reason is dual climate control. It probably wouldn't hurt for Toyota to add a vent in the rear of the center console for rear passengers, but the main reason I feel 4Runners have dual control is that the interior space is much larger, and without it people wouldn't enjoy riding in a hot rear seating area with no vents. Whereas, in the Tacoma the air circulates through the smaller interior relatively quickly. Therefore Toyota saves money on leaving it out of Tacomas.

A moon roof would be cool, always liked them (the ones that open via hinge and thats it).

    Exactly!

Agreed to a certain extent. My wife's '07 4Runner has dual climate control - this is not to be mistaken with different climate zones. The passengers in the rear have no control over what the temperature is back there - they just have a couple of vents in the center console (which I agree are not needed for our trucks). The dual climate control lets me set the temperature I want up front (freezing), and allows my wife to set the temperature that she wants up front (cool), and then maintains those temperatures for us. I would be more than happy with just regular climate control (I had that in my '05 Subaru so I do miss it), I just wanted to stress just how strange it was for the same vehicle platform to have such a disparity in its appointments. The 4Runner has had DUAL climate control for over 10 years... why haven't they given the Taco climate control yet?

I've personally never been a fan of the moon/sun roof, but I know plenty would like the option. I also don't understand why each TRD package has to have trade offs. The OR gets the locker and ATRAC, the Sport gets the scoop and color matched accents, the Limited get horrendous amounts of chrome but also leather/heated seats. Why aren't these options transferable and only available as a package where you have to take it or leave it all? I would love to by the TRD with Locker/ATRAC, hood scoop/color matched, and leather/headed seats! I want the best of all worlds and I would have paid for it too!

I'm confused by this statement. Are you saying that everyone else would think like you? As it sits, all the vehicles that roll off the lot are the same.

My big concern with doing mods right out the door on a new truck is the loss of warranty. If I pull wires, install this great new mod and the mod has a manufacture defect, apply power and I short out my trucks computer, Loss of warranty on a $3000 computer.

I read a post on a camery site about adding seat warmers to a camery that voided a warranty when he took it in because the owner had to unplug the seat airbag system to remove the seat.

Its extreme and you know this going into the mod before you do it, or at least you should know, but have the ability to say before the truck is built and say... Add X Y Z and 1 2 3 during the build. Customized and factory installed.
