Ording Tom woods driveshaft, what flange sizes??

Measured my drive shaft and its 67.5 inches flange to flange, but cant get perfect measurements on the center to center on the bolt holes with shaft on truck.. anyone have the measurments? my truck is stock susp. so im going with the onepiece with ujoints not the cardian ones...what do you think.. I get the vibe only when acel from 20 -70 . After 70 ther is so little load on anything it doesnt vibe.

Its almost like toyota didnt balence the shafts right wit the carierbearing, like it only vibes when there is a load on the shaft, when u let off gas it goes away.

 

Wait..is your truck lifted? I only see 5100's set to 0. And you are still getting vibes?

 

ya stock hieght, tons of people have the vibes at stock, this is in the rear drive train, not the front diff vibe from a lift, i had 5100's at 1.85 and it vibed in front so i lowered, but this is only under a load in 2wd

 

allready did that, and thats only for 15-25mph vibe, and that didnt do anything.

 

Ordered it monday so i should see it on wed of next week. With out a lift, i shouldnt have to shim my rear pinion angle right, it appears to be with in spec if i do a visual.

 

Too bad you already ordered it.
There's a seller on ebay that is much cheaper.
It's a crap shoot with Tom Woods and his customer service when you have issues, really sucks!
That's just my personal experience.

 

Id rather order from TW as everyone on here has been happy but a few and they had other problems i bet. The one on ebay is 339.00 plus 50.00 cuz its over 40 inches long so its 380.00. Its not cheaper, and i never heard of that guy, weird that his shop is right where tw's is saltlake city, ut......I paid 349.00 i dont need the cv style either as im only stock height, TW's also has been very helpful when i have called, returned all my emails and said i have 30 days if i dont like it he will refund my cash.

 

Well it good that some were lucky to receive a good shaft from Tom. I'm just relating my personal experience with his shaft. I personally wouldn't recommend TW. You would be much better off looking for a local drive line shop.
For my shaft he told me "it was a hit or miss deal with our trucks, for some reason a few people were developing vibration issues."
To me that's a piss poor answer!
But like it's been stated some people were happy?
I paid $479 for my double cardan shaft. So the Ebay one would have been much cheaper. it was going for $299

 

I do not have any vibes yet but when I go up another 2 inches this week, if I do have vibes, I was planning on going with the TW double cardan drive shaft. I have read its the best fix so far.

Toku58, did his shaft help your problem after you had it installed?

 

The TW shaft fixed the take off shudder. But it created a vibration at 50-55 mph back when I had 8" lift on my truck. The only way to lessen the vibration was to lower my truck back to 6" lift.
I still have a minor vibration at 50 mph but it's O.K.
I just didn't like Tom's attitude towards the vibration issue. He wasn't willing to correct the issue.

 

toku58, what other suspension mods have you added to your lift besides the fabtech performance kit? And did you have any shudders or vibes before the 6 inch lift?

 

Well right now I only have the 6" lift. The take off shudder was there ever since I installed the 3" lift. I still have my stock DS, I'm looking into having a local driveline shop check the phase of the universals. I believe that's the reason it has the take off shudder.

 

so what where your measurements?

 

would the Toyota Dealer know(parts department) the flange size?

If you're ordering a custom driveshaft, check out a local driveline shop. Tom woods sucks. He has been using cheap chinese "gold seal" u joint for years. I ordered custom front and rear driveshafts for my JK and had nothing but problems, his u joints measurements didn't meet standard 1310 specs and had slop. I paid to ship them back, he "re-balanced" and sent them right back with the same crappy u joints. I ended up replacing all of the u joints (six) with spicer joints and the problem was fixed. A warranty doesn't mean shit if you just inspect a failed part and send it back.

Spend your money local and get actual spicer u joints. Have the shop check your drive line angles and get it set up right, rather than waste money on cheap chinese u joints and poor customer service.

If you don't have local shops, find a reputable shop online that builds Jeep drivelines and just tell them what you need. There's nothing special about Tom Woods.
