What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Made some spring hangers for my chevy 63's out of cardboard.. Just need to get some metal now.

 

This has been beaten to death on pirate. Not DOT approved doesn't make them illegal for highway use. Apparently there's even an unclaimed reward for anyone who can can actually show/prove that they are illegal to use on the street.

 

Even if beadlocks are illegal I bet the rule isn't enforced

 

It's not, just like all of our lifts are for "off road use only"

Exactly, its not worth their time to stop a mall crawler and write them a $20 ticket or whatever it is, if anything they will stop you just to give you a compliment haha

 

Yeah I do love the storm trooper look. Which works out because I also happen to hate chrome, so I'm slowly but surely de-chroming too

Well my friend's K5 is still a turd and he's probably $55k into its "build"

By trying to make it as good as a stock tacoma

Dude... don't even get me started. I love this guy like a brother but he is severely impulsive with deci$ion$ and ends up spending more money fixing stupid decisions than just doing it right in the first place.

Put it this way... for the engine alone, he had a ghetto shop try to build a 350 from another early 70s K5 and a late 70s Camaro. Or something like that.

Ended up a mechanical and electrical nightmare. So he took it to another shop to see if they could fix it. After thousands of dollars in labor, they decided to drop a 1991 Corvette motor into it. An L98 I believe. After several more thousand dollars of labor and trying to wire it up, etc... he's still left with a used motor that doesn't operate ideally.

Once I said to him, "you know, you could have bought a brand new crate motor and new transmission for half of what you've already spent on your motor debacle"

That's just the engine. It should give you an idea into the rest of his "build"

 

Wow, and there is no way he is going to get that money back either, sad sad deal, How come he went with the blazer and not something else?

 

To give you another glimpse into his truck. He had some shop weld up a full roll cage for the front cab and rear passenger bench seat.

Only problem is the part of the roll cage that is directly in front of the rear passengers is pretty much at face level. Meaning if you're bouncing around in back on a trail, there's a good chance you're going to smash your face against steel tubing.

I think you need to step in and help him out a little haha the whole thing sounds like bad news, could you imagine if he had passengers and got in a wreck

 

He bought the blazer a few years ago. Completely stock. Really nice truck actually.

Then rolled it the first time he went wheeling. Pretty much totaling it except for the frame.

And then the build began.

Mind you this is the same guy who, about 20 years ago, dropped about $25K into a late 80s Grand Cherokee. He drove it straight from the audio sound system shop to my house to pick me up for its first ever real drive (it spent weeks at the auto shop getting a frame off build and then a full paint job).

As we walked out of my house, 5 minutes after he arrived, we saw his truck completely engulfed in flames on the street.

No insurance.
