I'm thinking about selling my truck in the next year or so once its paid off..

    its a 2005 dcsb white 4x4 sr5 (non-trd)
with 5100s, aal, camburg uca, m/t classic ii, new cooper st maxx 285/70/17, 142k miles, sub box behind the seat with 2 10s and a jl amp, aftermarket radio, black taco emblems. all the maintenance has been kept up to date, no dents whatsoever. clean interior, non-smoker

just trying to get a ball park of whats its worth since kbb is just a guesstimate

thanks in advance for your input!

Craigslist is probably going to be more help than TW. Local markets vary a lot.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say you are posting here because you weren't happy with the KBB estimate. I'm going to go further out on this limb and remind you that you WILL NOT GET YOUR MONEY OUT OF MODS. I'm new to Tacos, but on every other vehicle I've bought or sold, you count yourself damn lucky to get 20% of the cost of the mods.

good point...I'm just trying to get an idea of what they're actually selling for rather than what people are asking for them. and its not that i wasn't happy with the kbb estimate, i know from experience that its only a guess...for example my old 91 240sx kbb said was worth $800, i listed it for $3500 and it was sold within 24 hours

Weell, those old drifter thingamajobs are usually an extreme exception. I still got no idea why people pay that much for clapped-out pieces of junk. Not that yours was a piece of junk, but most of them are now.

Oh, and you're right about CL prices being asking not closing prices, but if you trawl the listings for a bit you'll get a good idea what's selling and what isn't.

i completely agree on the piece of junk thing...mine was rough when i bought it. but a little body work and a cheap respray and everything looked great. one good thing is parts are dirt cheap for it. here's a little before/after

Hmm... my gut is telling me that I would probably be willing to fork over maybe 16-17k for it if I were a buyer. If you're motivated to sell it, list it for 14 and it'll be gone in a hurry.

Are you the original owner or second owner? Reason I ask is because you said it's a 2005 and you have a year or so left to pay it off. That's a long ass loan if you're the original owner! Did you have to refinance it at some point? One owner vehicles are more desirable and that will give you a little more leverage with your asking price. Also if you have maintenance records that will help too.

Not always true.. Mostly 90% of the time.... but on the rare occasion you can find a dealer or an individual that will pay close to 80-100% of the mod's. My dealer did.

They gave me about 85% of the price of each mod. Granted I had EVERY SINGLE receipt for each mod. Down to bolts I had to buy to put something on.

That should help you get a little more out of it. As a buyer I would be a lot more comfortable buying a truck with records.

I paid 16k for mine up here but everything was almost always 20k+ or had been rebuilt.

Aftermarket parts add nothing, and CAN reduce the resale value.

First year production, over 100k, lifted (which hints towards off-roaded). I'd say I'd list at 14 and accept anything from 13-14. But there is always a rich kid who could see that, look past everything I listed, and just see the recent body styled tacoma (minus the new grills), lifted, that looks good and tell his parents to buy. That's how stealerships get so much.

Good looking truck, but the Tacomas don't sell for as much down south as they do North and West from here.

Mods don't always add value to every buyer, as Rich says it can lower the value to some buyers. I'm always in the market for a 2nd gen, and I'd only go 12 due to the fact of what I listed earlier, and that I'd have to spend money to get it back down to a closer to stock size. I don't like paying more for gas then needed, and I have dirt bikes to load.

Mods are worth nothing to some people, little to most, and a lot to a little.

    Nice looking truck anyway.

Either way I just sold my 2005 wrx wagon for 10500...brembos all 4 corners, full turboback, coilovers, intake, blah blah blah...

KBB had it listed for 9400 (good condition) ... brembos alone are worth stock brakes + 1k ... I had people offering me 7k ...sometimes you take a hit...sometimes you come up a little...so if you want to maximize profit, part out and sell the truck stock
