Warning, another long as juicing update. Skip if not interested...

Day 10 juice fast update: I'm bummed to report that for the first time since I've started this diet I've actually gained weight. 1.4lbs to be exact. I changed a couple of things yesterday and have a couple of thoughts. The first thing I changed was that I went to the store and grabbed some Low Sodium Spicy Hot V8 juice to drink. I was getting tired of sweet juices and wanted a change to the basic flavor I was taking in and so I thought this would be a decent way to go temporarily until I could get a juicer. My guess is that even though it's 'Low Sodium' it's still higher than I should be taking in right now & probably triggered some water retention. If this theory is right then stopping drinking it should reverse this rather quickly and I should see this weight I put on plus whatever I would have lost come off within the next 24-48hrs as things return to normal. I've switched back to the Botlhouse Farms juices that I've already had success with and have increased my water intake in an effort to flush my body of sodium. Here's to hoping I get back what I gained through water weight yesterday plus what I would have lost through fat burning.

I also had the wife stop by Walmart and pick me up a juicer and some veggies & fruits. About the best thing they had on the shelf was a Jack LaLanne Power Juicer so that's what I got. It runs about $100 and I'm not impressed. It was quieter than I thought it would be and seems like a well made product. That's about the end of the positive things I have to say about it. For starters it seems as though it leaves a LOT of juice as the pulp I removed was very wet still so you're wasting a lot of your veggies & fruit which means wasting money as well. The next annoying thing it does is that as it makes juice it pours out of the spout into the included cup but at the same time it sputters and spits liquid out the front too. So if you're standing in front of it and juicing something like a beet your shirt is ruined. If it's point to the side then your counter is douched in juice by the time you're done. I made a recipe that was supposed to be spicy V8 and while it didn't really taste like spicy V8 it was pretty tasty. I was still tasting garlic this morning when I woke up though so go light on the garlic. lol

I'm planning to return this juicer but will probably keep it until the one I order shows up. After some research it appears as though the Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Juicer is a good bargain for the price tag. It runs $59.99 w/free shipping via Walmart & Amazon so I'll probably order from Amazon to avoid paying tax. It has a more powerful motor than the LaLanne and has done quite well in the reviews that I've read. It does a pretty solid job of out performing juicers that cost quite a bit more so I'm confident I will be happy with this once it arrives.

Ost... I've not heard anything good really about the Lalanne. If the juicer leaves the pulp too wet you can run it through again. I read that one is an absolute bitch to clean too. Apparently most juicers will sputter juice out everywhere, wonder which ones have a splatter guard.

Day 4 for me. I only dropped 0.2lb from yesterday. Probably because I had to get something non-sweet & non-veggie in. ..so I ate 3 pita chips & some almonds last night... i needed the bland & salt taste. No biggie because I'm still down 5.6lb total. Today is a crap feelin day though. I am sooooooo tired. My gut is wrenching...I'm tired of the veggie taste in my mouth - it's like a gross version of morning breath &/or cottonmouth...gum isn't helping much.

Ost did you see Walmart had that Hamilton Beach juicer as 2 different model #s & prices? I couldn't tell much difference between the two. Power switch is different.

If you look at the front of the power juicer the outlet is kind of a water fall type and the part above is just open. Hard to explain but if you look at the Hamilton Beach Big Mouth for instance it has a spout that turns downward. I think this will make all the difference with this particular problem.

I think if you're going to do this you just need to commit 100%. No food. Not even three nuts. Juice and water and that's it. Otherwise I think you're making it harder than it needs to be and the results are being sacrificed. I have a feeling that a lot of your stomach issues and what not are due to this based on my trail run before I just went 100% in. I have read that you will get like a white furry film on your tongue as part of a detox process so maybe that's what you're talking about? I have experienced dry mouth and am sure this is partially what it was due to but not sure if I buy the whole 'detox' thing yet. I suppose it's possible to build up toxins in your body over time but I personally think that the human body is better at dealing with these things than we give it credit for. I'm not doing this as a cleanse or detox but if I do get some benefit in those categories then so be it. I just know that I wouldn't do this diet with that as the sole intent as some do that I've read about. I digress. I think you should commit 100% if you're going to do it as the small things you are putting in are being given MUCH more attention by your body since the digestive system thinks it's in starvation mode. It will actually store even the smallest things you put in at a much higher rate than usual as a result. Hence my weight gaining from water storage from drinking 'low sodium' V8 juice.

I did see that and after some research I figured out the difference. The only functional difference is the two straps on either side. On one it's plastic and on the other it's metal. About the only negative things I could find about this juicer said that the plastic version could break with normal usage and I'm guessing this is why they produced a version with the metal brackets instead. Sounds like it's probably worth $10 if that's the weak link in the design. I plan to get the 67650 and will probably order from Amazon since none of my local Walmarts have them in stock and if I'm going to ship I might as well use a company that doesn't charge me tax.

My juice diet posts have been pretty lengthy but I think there's a couple of people who could benefit from it form the sounds of things. I have to admit that when I got on the scale this morning and saw a higher weight the thought of quitting had crossed my mind. I mean, what's the point of going through all of this if I'm not losing weight? I'm confident however that the weight gain is simply water weight and easily avoided through my own actions so I wasn't discouraged enough to quit. Now, if this trend continues then I will put the kybash on all this shit quickly.

My Wife and I are pretty happy with our diet.

We don't eat grains or dairy.
We do eat nuts, beans, sweet potatoes/yams, meats, fruits and veggies. Pretty much everything we can cook ourselves, and as little processed foods as possible. We eat until we are full, not worrying about carbs/calories/fats.

I do drink protein shakes, daily, and take some bcaa's (RestorAid,) after workouts. I also take a thermalgenic, each morning (MX-LS7.)

I am down around 6lbs-ish and my wife is down 12lbs-ish since we started about 6 weeks ago. We feel good, look good, and we've had to modify our belts.

All of this is big change and we threw out all of the food that didn't fit our diet, once we started. It feels good to eat what we want and most restaurants will leave the cheese and bread off, if we ask.

Sean said this before, it's a lifestyle change. I am not sure if I could only drink juice, but what we are currently doing is as easy as getting fast food, but the rewards are much better and tastier.

    I weighed 185lbs when I started. Age:31.

I work 8a-5p and workout 1-2 hours, three days a week.

6 lbs may not seem like a lot but I haven't weighed under 180lbs in probably 10 years.

    I weighed 290.4lbs. I'm 35 years old. I don't have the time to workout.

For someone who needs to lose a few pounds I wouldn't recommend a juice diet (yet) and would recommend working out and diet changes. To some people simply making changes to the diet aren't that easy or making time to workout simply isn't possible. Some people also have a LOT more weight to lose. I get what you're saying about lifestyle because I've been there. I know what it's like to meticulously measure everything you take into your body and only eat for fuel.. not for flavor. During this same time I worked out 2hrs a night 6 nights a week. I know what it's like to have this lifestyle that you speak of. I also know what it's like to attempt to get back to that lifestyle about a dozen times only to fail miserably getting a little more out of shape each time. At some point you need to attempt something new which is what I'm doing. Once I get to a better place I may be more capable of getting back to that lifestyle I was once at but preaching to someone to simply change their lifestyle is similar to telling a meth addict to quit. Both are great advice but sometimes it's more complicated than that. I can appreciate where you're coming from and perhaps one day I will be doing the same.

The reason I said 'yet' earlier is because as I make my way down this road & learn more and more about it I'm thinking that a juice diet might not be good just for those who live a sedentary lifestyle and are quite overweight. The more I learn about it the more I think that just about anyone can benefit from this juicing lifestyle and it has shown to have wonderful healthy and medical benefits to just about anyone. It also appears as those coming off of this diet are more successful at changing their lifestyle and making better consumption choices long-term. I think the most interesting thing of all of this has been how many people I've seen that are able to get off of every prescription their were on before starting. I've seen others talk about getting rid of grains and dairy and then eating meat and veggies and replacing bacon with a bunch of the other food they ate and while you may lose weight I don't see how you can be more healthy and your arteries must be hardening monthly and your cholesterol is surely rising. To me, that's not healthy. I realize there are a lot of fad diets out there and I'm usually the first one to debunk them being the born skeptic that I am. This juice diet craze appears to be different however. Time will tell.

Good on you for stick with it and having the information to defend it.

My main point was, if you can make a big, healthy, change to your diet, you can and will lose weight. Making this change, your lifestyle, is much harder.

I would put $10 out there for anyone that stops eating grains and dairy and doesn't loose weight over a 4 week period. Grains and dairy are probably the hardest thing for our bodies to digest, much harder, comparatively, than meats, or veggies.

    *getting tired edit*

I don't even like cheese. Or chocolate. Or lots of crappy foods that people crave. I do however eat copious amounts of meats & bread/grains. When I get back to eating I plan to cut down on portions of meats and try to eliminate grains from my diet entirely. Dairy is a difficult one because I don't each cheese but I grew up drinking milk and find myself drinking milk when I have heartburn. I wake up at like 3-4am and have such bad heartburn that I have to walk to the kitchen and chug milk to quench the fire. Once I'm in better health I hope that my heartburn issues are a thing of the past as well as my medication for it and then I won't have a reason to drink milk and dairy will be easy to stop too. I plan to continue juicing as a large part of my diet and will try to not eat as much crap and cut down on portions all the way around. All of these changes will be for the better but I also am not too proud to admit that none of them would have occurred w/o this current juice diet I'm on. It's the break I needed to get my head straight and formulate a game plan and actually put it into place.
