Ride quality...

Hi all, new to the forum. Have a question about the ride quality of my yota. I have an 06' 2wd double cab TRD off road with the camburg mid travel kit up front (upper a-arms and adjustable coilovers) and stock suspension in the rear. The truck currently sits on 33" BFG all-terrains. Although it drives nicely on the street, freeway driving is completely different. I can feel just about every bump on the road. Any suggestions for me setup wise? Does anyone else have this issue?

There is a TSB for a rear harsh ride. Mine is currently being looked at as I type. The only thing is you have to be under 36000 miles and 36 months.
Now the big question is...will they do the TSB with the lift and tires you have. Probably not. I have slightly bigger tires and a 2" readylift suspension spacer on my truck and they have given me plenty of hassel about doing the TSB with the mods.

So....thats an option...but prolly unlikely with your mods.....im in the same boat

 

Well, being at 45k miles im already out. The truck gives an overall feel of not only a rear stiff ride but also uncomfortable from the front. I wonder if my coilovers are too stiff; I'd rather not adjust them to lose any of the front height.

 

how high are they set?

 

I honestly don't know; I bought the truck used and it came at this height. It sits about level with the rear end.

 

I think most people set them between 2.5-3 inches. If yours is above that it might make it rough. Or maybe they just need to be rebuilt.

 

well the shocks themselves only have 45k on them, doubt they'd need to be rebuilt. Maybe i just need to play with the springs a bit. It also seems like there's compressed air that sits on the top of the reservoir, maybe I can drop the pressure down a bit?

 

There are some people on here that have those coilovers. Im sure they will chime in. One guy had to get his rebuilt because they were leaking or something like that.

No problem. Wish I could do better but I dont have that setup.

 

Also want to test the tire pressure. If they are over-inflated they will ride rougher (to a point).

The chalk lines test is the best way to get the ideal wear pattern. Draw a line across the tire with chalk- Drive about 100yds- Look at the line...If the middle is warn and outsides still chalked- Air them down. If the sides are more warn...air up. When it wears evenly....You are at the ideal pressure for wear patterns. Air up a bit for gas mileage but a stiffer ride or down a bit for a softer ride or offroad adventures.

Hah. That's a damn good idea. Never heard of that before. Makes good sense though. And simple.

The reason it is rough is because coilovers are valved pretty stiff for offroad use. If you want them softer you are going to have to get them revalved.
I am sure they soak up big bumps and dips great though. I wish my Icons were a little softer as well.
