Tacoma resale is absolutely ridiculous. Local dealers ask just as much for a year old model with 12k miles as they do for a new one.

Although valid points were made, a vehicle is not an investment. An investment quite simply is a purchase with the hopes that it will increase in value or generate income. 95% of all vehicle purchases will not. A Tacoma certainly will not unless it was purchased 10 years ago and made of gold. Purchasing a car is similar to purchasing a tool.

That being said, there are smart purchases that will reduce the normal depreciation of a vehicle, in which a non-golden Tacoma is clearly one of them.

Anyone who feels they have "invested" in a vehicle that they actually drive is mistaken.

    Bone stock for now....
From a purely literal context, I cannot argue your point. However, this discussion does bring back fond memories of my beloved grandfather whose favorite expression, and one I use frequently to help keep perspective on little things versus big things was simply this....

"son, you're picking fly shit out of pepper"

By the way, thank you for your service to our country......

    What was your MOS?

I read the Consumer Reports take on things, and in my eyes the reason they don't recommend the Tacoma was simple. It wasn't that they were bought out; it was that the Tacoma was too much like a truck. Everything they faulted in the Tacoma was basically standard truck characteristics, and everything they lauded in the more highly recommended trucks was due to those trucks sharing blood with cars.

In other words, the Tacoma is more truck than car. If you shop trucks looking for the truck that is as much like a car as possible, the Tacoma will not be your top pick. Surprise!

Since when has Consumer Reports not "Recommended" the Tacoma? When I was in the market back in '07, I had a consumer reports that recommended the 2nd gen Taco. IIRC it was the '06 model.

I don't know exactly when they changed their tune, but currently they recommend the Ridgeline and the Avalanche. Notice, hearkening back to my previous comment- the two least truck-like trucks.

CR's favorite thing about the Ridgeline-

They not trucks. Even some HOAs around here allow people to park them in front of their homes but will not allow real trucks.

Same here in central Virginia...some year old Tacos are actually advertised for more than I paid for my '13 model.

CR is entertaining to read (as are all magazines like them) however I would never dream of taking their opinion into account with any purchase I make.

What I like to do is conduct my own research, and then compare my conclusions with theirs. If they generally agree with my findings, that's more supporting evidence. If they disagree, maybe I need to do more research.

Thats a good one from your Grandpa.

I was a Cryptologic Maintenance Technician. Apparently, that isnt even a job anymore. They merged it with a couple other jobs. Sounds fancy but I was just an electronics technician with a security clearance.

So you pick the shortest simplest thing out if my whole post and see it as saying I have no view?

If you read, I said we like our trucks and we also know they have a very high resale.. My "who cares" was meaning why would we care if cr says otherwise?

If you want though I can write you a list and put tacoma at the top if it helps you feel better..

    1) toyota tacoma
    2) toyota fj cruiser
    3) toyota 4runner

Best list you will find ;)

There sure is a lot of butt-hurt in Tacoma World because Consumer Reports doesn't love our Tacomas like we do. :pout:

From my experience, people that are dedicated to a forum or for that matter a certain brand (Toyota/TW in this case) do so because they love what they have. Here it's the Taco. Again, purely my own opinion, and seeing is to how opinions are like a-holes (everyone has one) I think the Tacoma is a fantastic truck. Why would I buy a truck that rides like a car? I would not. But that's me. I could quite frankly care less what CR says. I love the Tacoma for what it is and I would buy another one tomorrow and the next day. My point is if CR said the Tacoma was rubbish, would you still buy one? (With in reason of course. Ie: If it set fire after 5k miles obviously not) that however is a rhetorical question and I expect there to be varying answers. FWIW I would. I love mine.
