Haha yep :) First time I've been there honestly. I hardly ever swim at sly park but my friend wanted to go to the waterfall to check it out. Was actually fun.

Yikes on the knee surgeries. I imagine recovery time after surgery sucks. Hope she's alright!

Lucky! My wife needs both of them replaced but he said the insurance companies don't like to pay for it until you're over 50. She had both knees cleaned up and lateral releases done 3 years ago. After 3-4 month recovery, we'll see how long her other knee lasts (doc said it needs it too but she can still walk on it). If he can get it to last 5-7 years, he'll consider this surgery a success. It'll be nice to have her off crutches in a couple of months. She's been on them since November.

Does anyone know if all the surrounding land on the Middle Fork American River is private?

I'm trying to crash a bachelor party rafting trip by either driving to the camp site or backpacking along the shore. The rafting company wouldn't let me go cuz I can't swim. :(

Access to it can be difficult, but the western states trail follows along it all the way. Pretty sure it doesn't have any privately owned parts.

Middle fork has a class 5 rapid where most boaters pull out and go around below Todd Valley in Foresthill (I lived up there for a time). Back way down to that section was Drivers Flat Rd. Only access I know of is either out of Foresthill or Mammoth Bar.

This is the trip plan. The whole length of the rafting portion looks pretty short, but they're stuffing in activities in the middle like kayaking and hiking.

I was wrong, ruck-a-chucky is a class VI (not class V) portage. I used to watch them pull boats out and hook them on a cable on the south side of the river to pass the 3 giant boulders. Just down stream from there was where jeepers used to drive across the river. I've never been far enough down river to see the greenwood bridge where the boats pull out but on the maps it is near/at Driver's Flat Rd. a lot of things have changed since I lived up there in 1985. I used to ride my dirt bike down there before they gated everything.

The whole length is about 12 miles if I strictly follow along the river, and they'll probably be somewhere in the middle, I could totally hike that. I just hope nobody gets upset if I park my truck there over night.

Yeah, it works w/ your regular fb calendar so you can see a good overview of events. like if you have an anniversary to remember w/ your significant other, you just put the event into facebook and it'll remind you easily.

scheduling wheeling trips that don't fall on top of "i have to take the wifey to french laundry" or "time to take wifey to wine country because I had that week long wheeling trip last week"

    totaleeeee am man.
