Here is a comparision between the TRD FJ Anthracite gray wheels and the Plastidip anthtracite gray.

    Plasti applied, one quick spray

    IMG_0235.jpg

Don't know if you can see it, but this plastidip really has metallic flakes in it, small, but definitely just like spray paint. I know this isn't the best comparo, but I didn't want to get into spraying the whole wheel wedge with derp, just enough to show that it is slightly different than the stock Toyota color. I believe that this Anthracite is much closer in color than the Gunmetal color they also offer. That had more of a primer gray/blue to it, this has more black.

Thanks for the comparison. I was wondering how the plasti dip anthricite color looked. Does it peel just as easy as regular plasti dip even though it has metal flakes in it? Thanks

I wonder what the new aluminum color looks like...anybody have any ideas as to whether or not it will match the silver mica paint color? I am thinking about using it on my chrome bumper if it closely matches the silver mica of my truck...

The metallic derp peels like the original, I was going to get the aluminum derp as well, because I have SS Mica for my truck color, but 3 cans of the anthracite gray and clear was over $40, and I would have had no use for it other than a comparo. Other than this mod of derping the rear bumper, I'm also building my first AR-15, and money is tight for cool shit.

I decided to plastidip the chrome grill. I think it looks better, but worried how long it will last

I plastidipped the chrome grille and bumper inserts in the 99 Taco. It looks great for the first few thousand miles before you get a ton of rock chips on them. Re-spraying it covers up the shinny chrome underneath but I always got an uneven layer and could still see the pitting of the prior chip.

Only way to get a clean is pealing it off and respraying. It was a pain in the ass to peel/repaint every time and got old. I just pealed it all off in the end and just used good old black spray paint to permanently black it out.

Just curious, why not do it in a different color, that the Tacomas don't already come in stock?

Tacomas don't come in matte red with black hoods and tailgates..

    And because I like red.

I'm already pondering the idea around though of adding a camo theme to it.

Just un-derped my blacked-out badges. Amazed at how well the WD-40 worked at getting the stuff to soften up and come off.

Leaving the lower valance on the front bumper for now. Jury's still out on it.

Might do my wheels soon - haven't decided for sure whether to bother yet since I'm planning on replacing them when money permits.

Would be curious to see a good comparison between the anthracite and MGM... I'm probably going to paint my chrome rear bumper soon, and if it was a fairly close match that might be a good alternative.

I can't believe it's derp! I was spraying the rear bumper yesterday and today. Make sure you wear a respirator, there was metal flake flying all over in the air! I always wear one when doing anything like this anyway.

Looks great so far, I've got 7/8's of one can on, which is about 5 coats, the last one really wet. Tomorrow comes the glossifier and I'll post up some pics then.
