What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Did you use quick disconnect or do you bolt and in bolt them every time?

yes they bolt on but its not bad to swap them out.

 

that's a different approach, but you said you didn't have to "cut" into the body. wouldn't drilling be considered cutting? sweet though! curious how much pushing that rubber would withstand

 

I take it that you unbolt the rubber latch when you change doors? Also to make things a little easier on you, you might want to consider putting some quick pins in the hinges so that you don't have to realign the door when you swap back. You just need another set of hinges and some pins with a hole in the bottom with R-clips. The way I have my half doors setup, I can change them in about 10-15 mins., maybe quicker than that. I need to time myself one day. Check out my build thread, I think I posted a picture or two of my hinges.

 

yeah just take the self taping bolt out and plug the hole.
yes the pins would work nice and fast, the bolts that go into the door (not the cab) are self centering so as long as you leave the hinges on the truck you will not need to center your door. and with the doors bolting on they are solid.

as for no cutting and such you can just mount the door latch for the tube doors to the stock latch so you dont damage the body thats what i did for my rear doors and i plan on doing for the front doors

 

I am able to pull up a voltage reading on my UG, is this not a valid reading? Since it has no battery, isn't it just reading the systems voltage?

Oh ok. I didn't realize that the door bolts were self centering. That makes it better. I didn't take my bolts out to check because I didn't want/feel like realigning it, if they weren't self centering.

Thank you sir. I have the voltage on my UG and used it for a little while but it is not very accurate and it is slow. I had to set my refresh rate slower than I wanted because my truck threw a code. And while winching it was of no use because the UG was a second or two slower than my actions. Oh and the older UG's didn't have a voltage readout. I had one until I crushed it in the door lol.

 

I'm not sure, I looked through the list of gauges available and didn't see anything? I'll have to look again sometime.

 

My ultra gauge is a few years old now so maybe that's why I haven't seen it

I have been cheating on my truck all day... looking at Land Cruiser FZJ80s.... I don't want to trade my truck.... but damnit I had one to many kids.... maybe I 'll just leave the wife at home when I go camping.... Or she could always ride in the back.... but that means less storage.... hmmmmmmm

I really want to go to 35's and 5.29's after my lift but I can't justify $500+ for someone to install the gears. I know it's complicated but the only thing I don't feel comfortable with is measuring backlash and adjusting it for both coast and drive sides and I don't have that measurement tool. Does anyone know of a good writeup for this?

It does make sense to have a fast, accurate, dedicated gauge for heavy winch use. Are you thinking of going dual batteries at some point?
Just curious, what code did you throw from the refresh rate? I am only 3k miles into driving mine...and did have a random code come up.
