cliffnotes: do the 2009s still have the backup camera?

    Hello,

I just picked up my new 2009 pyrite 4wd sr5 regular cab which i factory ordered. I have the wiring harness and covers for the wires on the tailgate but no backup camera in the tailgate.

Does anyone know if they started only putting the camera in trucks that order it instead of all of them.

The reason i am asking is my dealer did a poor job of prepping my truck and "forgot" my floormats and door sill protectors even though i was charged for them. I don't want to accuse them of doing something wrong if it's a factory change.

Where could i order the camera if i have to?

    Thanks,
    J

I believe it's SR5 or better option packages only?

Edit: SE SR5 package lacks backup camera. Have to move up to a TRD package or better in the southeast.

just to clarify... there is no camera in the tailgate handle... or you dont have a screen in your rear view mirror.

All '09s are wired for cameras, but only some packages include them

My '09 4WD Access Cab has what I believe is the camera on the right side in the tailgate handle. Very well hidden, but I don't have the option so I don't have the screen in the rear view mirror.

Yea, I don't think they offer any package higher than the SE SR5 for the regular cabs.

I think the camera is there, you are missing the mirror with the screen. I'm not sure but it might be plug and play if you buy the mirror, about a grand from the dealer, maybe less but I'll bet there are much cheaper options. Talk to the dealer or your local audio shop might be able to give you some information/options. This is the one thing I did not want on my truck, I thought it was so stupid, now, I would not trade it for anything, I can park 1/4" from a pole or wall.

Yea my truck has the camera and cables up in the roof, but I do not have the Mirror to view it. Maybe someday I will see if there is a way to mod it and make it available.

You can easily buy the mirror monitor, or a DVD/NAV head unit and hook it up

yea i was gonna suggest just getting a DVD/NAV unit in the dash.... then wire that sucker to it..

i remember seeing the post where somebody has already cracked the wiring for it and done it....

it does not have the camera in the tailgate.

Earlier in the model year ALL of the trucks had the camera in the tailgate regardless of model. Even the stripper base 2wd had the camera. My truck has a piece of black plastic instead. I've looked at it very closely because adding the rear view mirror was going to be my first mod.

I was going to buy the mirror which i dont have but now that i have to possibly buy the camera too, it's probably not worth it.

    Thanks,
    J

Go to the dealer you got it from and look on the lot. If a bunch of them have cameras tell them what your plans were and see if they'll switch it out for ya if u pay for labor. They won't do it on one with the screen in mirror but maybe one without??

I was the same. I didn't think it would be that big of a deal, but it's AWESOME to have. Hooking up the boat trailer is now a very easy task and parking with it is just sick. It's a very cool and practical accessory.

I'm in Connecticut not the South East region. My truck was special ordered because usually you can't get an SR5 4wd reg cab in the North East.

I don't think that the regular cab models, regardless of trim level have the camera. I think you have to have an access cab or double cab to get it.

I stand corrected ... I just assumed because it's not listed as an option ... so apparently they put the camera there even if there's no way to display the image. Interesting
