do you need a special lower or will your basic lower work for a .458 socom?

I'm hoping to buy a complete lower soon (first upper I get will be 5.56). I've got a place local to me that does custom AR builds, and will be getting my complete lower from them (I hope), I've heard of people getting a complete from them for 250, hope I can get it for that price.

The vortex sparc is good to go. The strike fire has complaints of the dot not being bright enough. Otherwise neither have had issues and vortex stands behind their gear. They will repair or replace without hesitation and in conversations with them they stated if its been here 10 days that is unacceptable and way to long.

The lower is straight 5.56mm type, no changes whatsoever. That is one of the beauties of the 458 SC, swap the top and change the game. Even the magazines are the same, plain old Colt type 30 round mags work the best and the buffer and spring stay the same as well.

I've only shot one once, never owned - shot great and perfectly accurate w/iron sights from the 150yd mark I was shooting from. I think for the most part though, people in here will say A) pass for "something better," "more proven," etc, or B(I'm in this camp)) Build your own, save some money and learn more about your rifle.

With that said, my current rig is an over the counter DPMS Recon and it's performed flawlessly for 3000+ rds of anything from Eastern Euro bulk junk to nice and shiny Hornady.

    FWIW, YMMV...in the end though, you're Honey Badger...you don't give a shit :p

I finally followed the link and read in to this a little more...this is actually pretty clever even for folks outside of Crapifornia. It's totally legal to install this on a pistol build since the buttstock is attached to the grip as opposed to the buffer tube. Perfect for the SBR dreamers that don't want to hassle with the paperwork and wait time.

Lol true honey badger don't give a shit.

I'd love to build my own but for the money I know there is good over the counter stuff out there. DMPS makes a great rifle as well rock river arms and a few others out there. I know the one I'm looking at is a little on the cheap side and what some may consider a beginners rifle. Ok ok with that as long as it's not complete trash. I really don't need one just have the itch for one even though I don't see me using it that much.

This would still be an SBR if the barrel is shorter than 16" OAL. A rifle is defined by the ATF as something that can be shouldered and this definitely is made to fit in the shoulder.

ETA: Short-barreled rifle (SBR) is a legal designation in the United States, referring to a shoulder-fired, rifled firearm with a barrel length of less than 16 inches (40.6 cm) or overall length of less than 26 inches (66.0 cm).

*EDIT* - Figured it out...I glossed over the transition of them talking exclusively about the buffer tube covers as opposed to the whole pictured assembly (cover and grip stock).

"BATFE has examined the buffer tube cover (with and without cheek rise) and determined that it IS NOT a buttstock therefore it DOES NOT make an AR pistol an SBR. The letter is now posted on our new website. CLICK HERE TO GO TO OUR FRS-15 INFO PAGE THEN CLICK ON "LETTER FROM BATFE""
