My apologies for missing this thread for so long.

    USMCR 1986-1994 (8 years)
MOS: 2145/2146 (2145-M60 MBT repair Technician, 2146 M1 Abrams MBT repair technician, turret qualified)
Rank: CPL (Yes, after 8 years I was a Corporal, funny how the promotion board doesn't go well when you tell a Captain he doesn't know his job)
Highest rank: Sgt (see above comment)
Deployment: Our unit was 50% deployed during Desert Storm. I was unlucky enough to stay stateside.
Unit: 4th Maint Btn, 4th FSSG, Co (-), Waco, Texas.

Proud to have served with my Brothers in Arms!

My mom told me that ever since I saw my first Marine in real life when I was about 5, all I could talk about was being one. My dad was a Captain in the Air Force, and I was proud of him and what he did. My brother tried to join the Marines out of high school but was declined (not sure why) and in 1986 I walked into the recruiter office and simply asked "Where do I sign?" I went through MEPS in Dallas and signed my contract on November 10th, 1986. (Yep, the birthday of the Marines) It wasn't until July 1987 that I went to MCRD San Diego for boot camp. Why so long? Well in 1986, when I signed my contract, I was a Junior. I had to finish my Senior year in HS first!
After Basic I went back home for a couple of months while waiting on a slot for MOS school (Remember, I was in the reserve) So I would drill with my new unit every month until then. January of 1988 I went to Aberdeen Proving Grounds where the US Army trained us how to work on and recover the M60 MBT. At that time there were no Marine instructors for this course. After that it was back to my unit for the remainder of my time. I eventually ended up as Tank Commander for our M88 retriever. I wanted to deploy when Desert Storm came out, but after 5 requests to be deployed, and getting denied each time, I was eventually told that they needed someone qualified to stay behind with the unit and maintain everything back home. Well some of my really good friends did get deployed, and thank God they all came back in one piece. My M88 did not fare so well. It took a lot of small arms fire while in Desert Storm, and both of the boom extender pistons required replacement, as well as a lot of other items required maintenance or repair. I may have only been a CPL, but even the Staff Sgts showed me a lot of respect because of my time and knowledge. (Some would even congratulate me on telling the Captain he was an idiot)

In October of 1994 my wife at the time gave me two options: The Marines, or my family. I love the Marines, but I was not going to lose my family over it, so I decided not to reenlist.

So there is my story. lol. Hope it was entertaining to someone.

Graduated from Boot in late April, at Camp Pendleton waiting in Lima Company for the next ITB company to pick up, which is Charlie and it doesn't pick up for another 4 weeks.

Was waiting in line for chow and saw a expedtion/overland build. Believe it was a White DC, 3inch lift? bumper in the front, rear plate bumper I think, soft top in the back, and a tire gate. Belong to any of you guys?

With all of the Marines I see posting, I should have known there would be a circle-jerk like this somewhere on TW.

    MGySgt (Retired)
    5831, 8511, 2336
Desert Storm, Somalia, Iraq, and a list of other non-combat vacations.

Hey Spartan, you know a private Evan Lutz? He's my cousin's son. He was down at CP with Lima Co. Graduated in Feb. 13 from PI, and finished SOI, waiting for MOS school. He gave up his force recon contract and went regular 0311. He was just transferred last month to 29 Palms and last Friday (7/5/13), the crazy kid went and got married.
