maybe this is a hint that 2010s won't have camera unless it has the option with the mirror.

My '09 reg cab 4x4 came with the wiring and the camera, just not the mirror to make it work. I didn't even know such a feature existed till the sales guy pointed it out to me, going over all the stuff, when I picked it up.

In Canada the camera and mirror are included with double cabs SR5 or TRD only. All other trucks have the wiring and plug for the camera, but no camera.

I bought a basic 2wd Access last October and it came with a camera. It also has the wiring above the headliner. I would like to install the mirror monitor but haven't convinced myself I need to cough up the $400.

My new build May 09 Access Cab has the wiring to the tail gate but no camera.

As for the poor job done by the dealer in terms of PDI, the dealer is supposed to fill out a Pre-Delivery Inspection form which is a check list of stuff that takes about 2 hours or more. The form is then keep on file for you. This is covered in a TSB for all vehicles except the Pious, the TSB number is PD 005-03, August 2003. You paid for the PDI, ask them for a copy of this form.

I really doubt they will do that. Then they will have a truck on the lot that the options do not match what the sticker on the window says. That would just be asking for trouble when they sell the other truck.

to my knowledge they all have the camera in the tailgate with a wire connected to it...but they do not all have the mirror to make it work...mine doesn't have the mirror...the camera is right next to the tailgate handle pointing down towards the ground and there is a yellow sticker in the bed talking about how to disconnect the wire before tailgate removal

If it's from an older truck that doesnt have the mirror then I highly doubt most people would even realize the camera should have been there. Never hurts to ask. Maybe talk to the sales manager or something and see if they'll work with you.

Just the ease of hooking up trailers makes the camera so practical that they should put them on all trucks. I was hooking a boat up Sunday and the guy with me walked over to direct me back. I told him to let me try it without any help. I put it excactly where it needed to be and got out. He looked at me like "WTF?", and then laughed and called me an asshole when I showed him the camera.

strange...all the ones i saw at the lot had it and the dealer even said they all come with it...so i dunno...maybe they took it out and used it to replace one on another truck that had the mirror?

Thank you Disorderly. This is how mine looks too.

I think toyota got smart and figured it was cheaper to put a plastic blank there if you didn't order the mirror than give you the camera.

Thanks for the info on the PDI, i will ask to see that next time i have to see them.

Does anyone know the part number of the camera and how much it is?

    Thanks,
    J

    No trouble man.

The really weird part is they gave me a plug to use in case I have to remove my tailgate. Came with a big warning and everything.. hahaha

I just bought a 2009 Access Cab PreRunner and the camera is in the tailgate. I, like many of you, do not have the rearview mirror to take advantage of the camera. I have been doing some research and the rearview mirror seems to be built by Gentex Corporation and distributed by Mito Corporation. For what it is worth, I have concluded that Toyota did not include the "camera" in all Tacos. The wiring harness, however, I am not sure of. See links below for more info.
