O'Reilly's has Valvoline full synthetic on sale for 3.99/qt so i got 6 of those and a wix oil filter. changed it last night. funny thing is, after i added 5.75 qts, ran it for a few minutes to check for leaks, shut it down and let it settle while i got the old oil ready to take to the recycler, the level on the dipstick was way up. why?

I've used AMSOIL products since 1978.

Currently, 0W-30 is in the crankcase filtered by an EaO spin-on at 6,000-mile intervals due to a TSB. I only drain the crankcase annually.

Don't forget the rest of the driveline! AMSOIL Severe Gear 75W-90, GL-5 lubricant makes things work nicely in the manual transmission and differential! :D

I got the same stuff. Valvoline was the only stuff they had 5 quarts of and I registered for the engine guarantee. My taco's good for at least 300k.

none except for crappy hub caps and floor mats.
I buy the cheapest oil and the cheapest oil filters at WalMart. 223,000 miles later and she still runs perfect.

Purolator PL10241 filter and whatever name-brand dino oil is on sale (Castrol, Chevron, Valvoline, etc.) I've heard bad things about Pennzoil and Quaker State (from reliable sources) so I tend to stay away from them but would still use them if there was nothing else available.

Well as a fellow autozone emplyoyee, I take advantage of the used oil and paper towels.....

J/k I use castrol gtx 5-30/mobil and bosch oil fil. I always tell my customers to stay away from fram and weak ass coffee filter STP brands. I always tell them to go with bosch or more expensive (mobil 1, fram tough guard, k&n) I'm trying to do my part. I always tell them to check their oil after 3000 miles and I bet their oil will be almost clear. I just changed my wifes oil today. I used valvoline max life and a fram tough guard oil filter.(its on sale 19.99 5 qts &fil)
I'm thinking of going with wix and full synthetic. I hear good things about wix filters, or am I just crazy??

Wix oil filters are excellent, perhaps the best money can buy. But they are more expensive so people tend to be satisfied with filters that are 'merely' very good and cost less money.

You might be a little crazy, but wix and napa gold filters are some of the best on the market. ;)

FWIW, the OEM denso filter has great filtering capabilities and holds up very well.

Amsoil 5w-30 synthetic and Amsoil filter. I change it once a year and if you do the math, it is less expensive than changing your oil and filter with conventional oil 3 times a year ( assuming you drive 15k miles a year). Amsoil has been rated the top Synthetic oil available.
