Anyone elses A/C tend to go out after deep water? Last few times I've gone on trails in deep water my A/C light will flash and go hot, turn it off for a few mins and all is well. Today I noticed it was blowing some steam so I turned it off for a minute, turned it back on and is functioning like normal.

Seems like some people I know with Taco's have it happen in deep water, others dont. Just curious.

 

2 things come to mind when dealing with deep water. First, your compressor. If you are getting the clutch wet/dirty it may act up. Second, the condenser, possibly clogged with debris. The condenser is easy to check, but the fact that the light flashes tells me it probably has to do with the compressor. You are probably just pissing it off by getting it that wet.

 

I was frequently in an out of water that was easily up to the doors, as well as typical water puddling on a dirt road after 3 weeks straight of rain. Once the light starts flashing I turn it off for a few mins and it goes back to working as normal.

How would I check the condenser out? My under carriage is full of mud and pine straw, and tomorrow will be spent cleaning. If its simple enough I might as well check it out.

 

The condenser is right in front of the radiator. Just look at it through the grille and make sure its not caked with mud. But again, the flashing tells me it's most likely from the compressor acting up. The flashing is an indication of an electrical issue or Freon issue, OR the compressor clutch not engaging due to the water/mud.

 

Staying at the Florida mall hotel tonight then crushing around tomorrow. Maybe visit bass pro or local shopping attractions.

 

mine did exactly what you are describing a couple of years ago at one of the Ocala meets. my roommate had one of those do-it-yourself AC recharging kits. I used that and all has been good since.

 

Anyone know what a dealership will charge to replace the 3 u-joints and carrier bearing in the rear driveshaft?

just had a u-joint go out and figured i might as well replace everything. simple task that i'd normally do myself, but i'm on business travel for 3 weeks in kansas city and don't have all of my tools with me.

Gotcha, just knew you were looking for a new job/moving.

 

I was quoted about 600 for the 3 u joints and labor, each u joint from them was like 95 and labor about 300

 

Dealer ?? Orlando Imports is telling me 120 a joint changed out. They are a great shop !!!

 

Colin, I honestly would try to find a local driveline shop. They will probably do it cheaper, faster, and better than most dealers. If you were here I would just tell you to come see me.

And here's my project for today. Not my truck though, but this thing will look like a beast when I'm done with it. I will post the normal before and after pics when I'm done.

 

yea that was stadium toyota in tampa,

120 per joint is still a rip off because each u joint is less than $20 and u can get it out in less than 10 minutes and take it to a shop to press them for $20 per joint
