It's 5x5 so myself, my wife, and my 8 year old daughter can fit into it just fine. It is held in place with 16 HILTI bolts that secure through the foundation and expand as they are tightened up. I have my safe in it with all our important information and 2 external hard drives with all our pictures and passwords for all our sites. The door weighs at least 300lbs and is secured by a dead bolt and 2 3/4" slide locks and opens inward. We live right in the middle of tornado alley and right before we bought this we had a tornado come through our neighborhood and hit the houses starting 2 houses down from ours. Quite a site to see a tornado spinning right outside your front door

 yeah, that wouldn't be fun to see. Makes sense with the door opening inward, incase of debris up against it. Something like that, living where you live is definitely worth the investment, for family safety, and good for resale value too. And smart keeping the hard drives in there.

Yeah... It sucked seeing the tornado across the street. Our house has 15' ceilings in it and it is a real "open" floor plan so we really had no where to hide. If a window blew out our house is just one giant balloon. We got lucky.

I've got a computer mount (you can see it in one of the pics) and I take my laptop in there and watch the live coverage since I have Dish Network and the "hopper". Everything is on battery back up in the house so the internet works for many hours even if the power goes off.

Hope I never have to really use it but it is nice knowing it is there. Bad thing about it is everyone in the neighborhood knows we have it so I told my wife if a bad storm is coming we are "NOT" to answer the door. We can't protect everyone and they could buy one just like we did. I realize that is kind of harsh but you take care of your family first.

Sub'd. Awesome thread. I miss the cool thunderstorms of FL. We don't get them up here in VA.

we had to use ours on may 31st. damn thing was right right across the highway from us. we bought a 6-8 person shelter even though it's just us and the dogs. we can get 5 and the dogs in there if necessary. that storm my neighbor behind me (just moved in hasn't put in shelter yet) put on his FB that he'd be hiding in the bathtub, just told the dude to hop the fence and come on in lol.

    Agreed

We had our neighbors "break" into our house and take our generator one year when we evacuated for a bad hurricane, they allowed everyone on the street to use it ... they ended up breaking it...

people were breaking into houses out here in hopes of finding storm shelters. a few who the news interviewed said nobody took anything and actually left info so they could pay for damages

I was up my cabin in Pymatuning yesterday , which is a little south of Erie PA. There was a tornado close by. Crazy rain hit where I was, buy no wind. Weird.

Yeah, I love a good amount of snow. We got a couple feet the first year I owned my Taco, and had a blast driving in it. I had to work, and got there late, but driving was nice, cause there wasn't many people on the road. At one point I was on the highway part of my drive to work, and I was the only one on it. Heaven.

Oh, no kidding? Yeah, I was surprised they talked about a tornado, because there was zero wind where I was. Just, maybe 5-10 mins of heavy rain, and done.

I avoid the highway at all costs if there's even a minor dusting of snow
Everyone out here starts doing this :goingcrazy::goingcrazy: the second they see a snow flake; and the highway turns into a vehicle graveyard

Yeah, surprisingly, even though we get a fair amout of snow, people here still can't drive and :goingcrazy: . That day, people actually listened and stayed off the roads. It was great.

We get alot of big weather up here in Alaska. During the winter a foot or two feet of snow in 24 hours won't even shut down the schools

We also will get storms in the winter with 100mph winds and crazy rain. All hell breaks loose when everything freezes and turns to ice though haha

I love driving all the back roads after a nice big snowfall. Nobody else around and the snow makes everything so peaceful and quiet.
