I am in the market for a new Tacoma DC , I know for sure i'll get the TRD sport not the OFF-Road , I know it's about maybe 2000$ or More for the 4X4 than 2WD. I am not looking to get off road or anything ,but we get snow here some winters sometimes .It's gonna be my daily driving truck, so it's all about the smooth ride and comfy around town ,that's my main concern . is there any different feels (comfortable ride or rough ) between the 2WD vs 4WD ? your comment would be much appreciated !!! thanks

If u get snow get 4wd. U will be happy when u realize u would of been stuck if u had 2wd only. Especially since ur getting the sport which has a lsd rear. The lsd can get real slidey real quick in slush

Get 4wd drive. It's one of those things you don't use very often, but when you need it, you'll be glad it's there. Plus, 4wd gets higher resale value if you decide to sell it.

Go 4wd. You'll be happy with that decision I believe.

Yeah 4WD is a godsend in slippery conditions. You can accelerate without worry of kicking your ass end out, you can get unstuck in conditions that would stop a 2wd cold. For the few bucks it would make per month on your payment, you'd be foolish not to unless living in texas/arizona type places.

Get 4x4 I went with a prerunner and am super happy with the truck and to tons of off roading BUT... Looking back the 2k more would have been worth it... Hindsite is 20/20 and lucky for you you get to use our mistakes to help you make the right decision... It's as simple as if you considered it you should get it cause you will want it..

    Too many to list now.
I use my 4wd about 7 months out of the year. Wouldn't buy a truck without it

This is going to depend a little on where you live. Some places nobody cares or wants 4x4. Some places it's like this:

When the locals feel like that, you won't just have lower resale value on the 2wd... you might not even be able to sell it!

I have never known anyone that bought 4wd that later said it was a waste of money and they wish they hadn't gotten it. I've lost count of the people that bought 2wd that later regretted not getting 4wd.

My current truck is 2WD, and my justification was that at the time I lived somewhere that saw almost no snow (SE NM), but the 2 times my truck has gotten stuck (sand and some unseen deep mud) 4WD would have paid for itself in the time that I and the people who helped me lost.

My next one will be 4x4, possibly with LRD. I have a motorcycle to commute on to save gas anyway.

I'd never buy a 2wd truck. If I'm that bad off financially that I couldn't get 4wd, I'd get a civic and not a truck.

If you get snow def. get the 4wd. What everyone is saying about the resale value is very true. Around here a 2wd truck is worth next to nothing, and would be very hard to sell. It will be well worth the extra money.

Agreed. If you take a look on craigslist, I'd bet a majority of the Tacomas listed for sale are all PreRunners that sit for a while, or atleast the craigslist for my area.

I even tried to examine the trend with 1st gens. If you take a look, most Double cab PreRunner 01-04 models with good mileage (around 100k or a bit higher) go for right around 11-12k, whereas double cab 4x4's all get listed at 18k and probably sell in the 15k-16k mark.

If that trend extends to 2nd gens, you can look at getting the 4x4 as keeping your resale value that much longer (unless you are going to drive until the wheels fall off like I am, in which case go ahead and get 4x4).

So bottom-line, just get 4x4. People argue they only need 2WD, but for me if I am to move to a different area where I need 4x4, well I have that covered for only small increase in price over 2WD in the long run.

You'll never regret getting a 4WD. Even if you don't use it much it will make it much easier to resell should you choose to do so later on. Plus, if you ever do end up in a situation where it helps you'll be extremely happy you did. As far as the daily drive goes, you'll probably never notice a difference between the two.

I've had my 4wd for about 3 months. a couple weeks ago in heavy rain, I backed the rear wheels off my friends drive way into mud. Poped it into 4h and got right out. couple days before someone else did the same. took them about an hour in the rain and mud to get him back on the drive way. 4wd ftw.
