Are you running steel winch cable with an aluminum hawse fairlead?

Doesn't the steel cable scratch up and ware away the aluminum?

I was told that hawse fairleads are only for use with synthetic winch line. If you use steel cable you will get scratches and rough spots on the hawse fairlead and you can never use it for synthetic line after that.

Is it causing ware on your steel cable?

There are people that say it doesn't matter. There are also people who say you shouldn't use synthetic on a roller fairlead. At the end of the day you just have to be really careful winching.

truth the problem arises if you use a steel cable on the hause fair-lead...you CANNOT use it with synthetic line after that....
i have been using it this for for about a year now
no problems at all...hardly any scratches...but again i try and make all my pulls straight on.....
