Tacoma TRD Sport 4WD vs 2WD

Here is a vote for that club.

When I got a 2wd in 06 I regretted that buy for 5 1/2 years until I traded it in on a DCLB 4WD.

 

In some places, it is true, 2WD is all that is needed. Many many people drive nothing but 2WD cars in those places. I wouldn't go so far as to say you should never buy a 2WD Taco- just, know your intended usage, the weather where you live, and the used market.

We get good snow about 3-4 times a year here in West WA. I put 3 5gal buckets of sand in the bed over my wheels on my 09 DCLB Prerunner and have never had a problem with slipping. Just know your limitations. My .02.

 

Get the 4WD, but order the base level and save thousands off the dealer loaded lot trucks with TRD / SR5 bling and fluff pkgs.

 

I got a 2WD Prerunner, for no other reason than to save some $. Never got stuck, YET. Would I do it again? NO!

Get the 4WD. We don't get a lot of snow here in NJ. But when we do it's usually a few inches. During the snow period it does get a little hairy driving.

Nah buddy, it really depends. Part-time 4x4 is cheaper, lighter, and generally more durable than full-time AWD. I believe part-time 4x4 is also somewhat more capable in the truly nasty stuff? AWD has its merits, same as 4x4 does. I don't believe you can unilaterally say one is better than the other.

I know I'm in the minority here but I'm happy with my pre-runner. Have owned 3 other 4WD Tacomas and a 4WD 4Runner and have never used 4WD. The resale in my area on Prerunner's is crazy high but I don't plan on selling anytime soon so I'm not worried about resale at this point. I guess it all depends on where you live and what you do with your Taco.
If we got snow or I went off-road, I would definitely go 4WD, but I don't so don't need it and I get a couple more MPG out of the tank.

 

I thought 2WD with a locker is better than 4WD?

4wd all the way if the funds are there...you won't regret it when you DO need it want to have it....

Think of it as a spare condom....it's better to have one and not need it, than to need it and not have one....
