Hey guys, I'm getting my first Tacoma soon which will probable be a TRD Off Road. I want a 3" lift but I don't want to break the bank, I have read that Toytec kits are decent. But what is the advantage of getting the $900 with the adjustable coilovers vs the $600 standard Bilstein one?
Here are the two kits I'm reffering to
    http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com/3-lift-kit-with-Bilstein-5100-Height-Adj-Coilovers_p_364.html

    http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com/Bilstein-Adjustable-lift-kit-with-5100-shocks_p_132.html

My truck will be on a road about 95% of the time so do I really need the $900 one? Are the coilovers the only difference? Also what are UCA's? I just want a decent 3" lift, and a smooth ride.
    thanks

have you even considered other brands? or read thru the suspension stickies?....
    ....why even ask anymore....

the difference between the two is the amount of adjustability. the $900 coilovers are prebuilt and will most definitely get you 3" of lift. they include a top plate spacer and everything is preassembled so replacing is a breeze.

the cheaper kit is only the components, new shocks and coils plus your choice of rear lift (I'd instead go with a full new leaf pack for 3" of lift) and might not yield a full 3" of lift, even on the 2nd clip

if you don't really care to adjust your coilovers to a small degrees of changes, the cheaper kit will do you well.

for the price range, they are the two competing brands. OME is rumored to be a more pleasant DD type of ride, but uses more parts and twin tube shocks that fade easier that the monotube bilsteins. is there a particular price you're topping out on?

If the only difference is that the cheaper Bilstein kit is a little less soft on the road I might just go with that. I'm a college student and I really only want to spend around $700 TOPS and it'd be nice if I could get away with less. It sounds like the Bilstein kit will do me just fine for what I want? and I like that you said it'll last longer than the OME

I have about $1k to spend on my truck when I get it, less $ spent on lift kit means more $ spent on something else. I just want something that's good and won't break the bank

I am also looking at these two options. I currently have new and not yet installed 5100's and I would be purchasing all the components to complete the lift.

I'll try to reactivate this thread... I'm in the same boat as the OP. I don't really understand the difference, they both look really similar, I have a spring compressor so I'm not worried about the ease of installation. I just really want a full 3 inches. I absolutely do not want a 2.5, really I want a 4" but this seems like a better option for now...

To everyone wondering, I was thinking the same but actually ended up ordering this,

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/out.php?...justable-lift-kit-with-5100-shocks_p_132.html

    And this,

    http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com/Light-Racing-Upper-Control-Arms-05-UP-Tacoma_p_195.html

Only because I can get my hands on a spring compressor, plus for almost the same amount as th the $900 one (just a couple hundred more), I was able to get the UCA's also. A lil under $1100 shipped. UCA's will help adjust alignment after the lift amd also help with future rubbing issues when you go with bigger tires. I just received my lift kit a couple of days ago and I'm gonna install this weekend as well as get my tires mounted and balanced and put on the truck. I'll post pics when I'm done.

I'm no mechanic and I've lowered a lot of cars before so this will be my first lift ever. I'm still doing my own research until the day I actually do the install. If anyone has any advice before I start pls chime in and let us know. If I am wrong in anyway about anything I mentioned, pls let me know.

I'm in the same boat as well, I'm trying to decide to go with the ULK or the Bilstein lift priced at 900.... any suggestions?

Finally done with my lift and tires! Now all I gotta do is my alignment!!!

Sits level and ride is great... So far!!!

Billstein all the way around, LR UCA's, 18" XD Monsters wrapped in Nitto Trail Grapplers 285/65/18. Cab mount chop done and removed front mud guards. Def sits higher than what I expected but I love it so far! Almost like having a brand new car all over again!

Wow that looks so awesome! I ordered the same nitto trail m/t's only in 295/70R17 Should only be 1/2" taller and like 3/8" wider, hopefully that shouldn't make it rub worse...
