If an ear is there to perceive the compressional waves produced by moving matter, then a sound is produced. If the waves are not perceived (received by a destination) no sound is made.

We'll agree to disagree. Just because you hear it doesn't mean the sound isn't there. If you leave someone a voicemail they didn't hear it yet the sound would have to be made in order to be recorded for them to hear later, right? BTW, you said yourself that it makes a sound in your explanation.
