If you're getting 20 MPG count yourself lucky. Mileage varies a lot with these trucks. Then throw on some mods and you're down to 15. Not much you can do other than drive it like a granny. AND WELCOME!

Really, 20 mpg is not too bad. Specs on your truck?

20mpg is great! I can rarely do 20 hwy. I would be happy with that.

I'm assuming OP's truck is a V6. I doubt 4 cyl DC will get much over 20 combined anyway.

Welcome to TW. These trucks are not very great on gas, I think I get 13 now. So 20 consider yourself lucky. No real mods other than trading in for a Prius to get you better mileage.

I doubt you will get any better than that with a doublecab and that 4 banger. I just drove one that was a loaner from Toyota and it drank the gas just like my V6 does and had no power whatsoever. Of course the one I drove was a 2013 and only had 1350 miles on it so it would probably go up once it gets some miles on it.

    Hi Lonnie,

Always nice to see a new guy visit here. 20mpg is actually not to bad for a 2.7. Do you have a stick or an auto? Tacoma engines don't need a lot of revs to move. I keep my 2.7 under 2,500rpm. Anything higher only wastes gas.

Other than that the cheapest mileage tip I know is to pump up your tires. I run mine at 40psi.

He has a double cab auto with the 2.7 4 banger in it. Not the V6.
