I am taking a long road trip, and bought one of those magnetic key locks that you stick under the car somewhere - in case I lose my keys somewhere.

But it occurred to me that thieves might check for these.

Is it reasonable to assume that someone would crawl under my truck and fish around looking?

If they want it they will get it. Thieves don't need a key when they can get in and drive away faster than you can get your own hide a key out and let yourself in.

Depends on what part of the country you're in and how well you hide it. Keep in mind that in certain areas, some people crawl under vehicles and cut the cats out of the exhaust. Could you imagine if they crawl under and found your keys instead?

If you hide it well enough, it shouldn't be an issue. It should almost be a PITA to get to when you're under the truck and not visible when laying under the truck.

I got just a key to open door cut today. When I bought my used Tacoma is came with one chipped key and one FOB. I just don't want to lock keys in the truck. I put my magnetic key holder on the inside edge of the back bumper. But might consider how I can get it in the receiver hitch somehow.

Tacos require special hitch pins, also sold on the above site.

I have a magnetic key hold on mine that I accidentally found from the previous owner. I had crawled under the truck like 5 times before I noticed it and after I had a new one cut.

I've never heard of someone finding a key hider and stealing a car unless they watched the owner place the key hider. Every incident I've ever heard of involved someone going surfing, rafting, running, kayaking, etc, and just left the keys behind hidden on the vehicle. Someone was watching and waiting for them to do just that. As long as it's not accessed in a non emergency situation, you will be fine. Personally, I'd skip the box and just ziptie it somewhere hard to see. Box is easier to spot.
