My back and I have had enough of these stock seats in my '99 Tacoma. The trouble is I don't expect just any old seat out of any old car/truck to be any better.

Has anyone with back trouble made a swap they are happy with? I know I'll probably have to fabricate rails to get something else to bolt in, but whatever trouble needed will be worth it.

I love my truck. I want to keep my truck. But I presently hate driving in my truck.

    Thanks.

I don't know if I qualify for back "trouble" but mine would be achy as all get out after an hour or so in the stock bucket seats.

Put Subaru Forester XT seats in mine and friggen love them.

If you're willing to spend $$$ I've also sat in a couple of Corbeau seats (no fabrication necessary if you buy their brackets) and it was heaven.

If you get corbeau's get then straight through corbeau, vs any other distributor. They are drop shipped any ways. Also go through and look for each option when you order them and make sure you get exactly what you want. I learned this after getting them for my vw and I wish I would have gotten the lumbar support from the factory.

I have about the same question as you, TTBlues. I don't have back troubles but I get sore as hell after spending the better part of my day riding around in the stock seats. I need to find something that is easy to clean, lumbar support, reclining, and comfortable. A tall order when it comes to a tall guy. I'll be checking this thread to see what people have thought up!

Also interested! I do lots of long road trips in my truck, and the stock bucket seats are certainly better than some others i've sat in but still not quite cutting it. No funds for corbeau and no fabrication skills for any of the swaps I've seen, any other options would be awesome.

i've done a bunch of searches and the most popular swap seems to be celica seats.
after that, integra, scion, matrix, 4runner, and srunner. pretty much all of them will need some kind of mod/fab to get them in.

what i haven't really found is what people with back trouble prefer.

i don't want squishy-soft-cushiony-comfort as much as proper shape and support.
for me, it's the same with a bed. a super soft bed feels great for 5 minutes. then my back starts yelling at me. but a fairly firm bed with no crazy bumps is much better.

car seats take about 15-30 minutes to reveal themselves. I might have to go to the pick and pull and just spend an afternoon sitting in different cars. But I hope not.

That could get you a few weird looks... Thanks for the swap info! :)

I have found, that adding a lumbar-support 'cushion' prevents
    back soreness for long drives.

I don't know how easy they are to swap into a taco, but the Recaro seats in my Evo are amazing! I've done 15 hour drives in that car and get out feeling fresh and without even a hint of pain. I've driven in a lot of vehicles, including supercars that cost over 6 figures, and haven't found a seat that I like as well. They just support me perfectly. You might be able to find some used.

My wife got me a seat rebuild from a local upholsterer last year. This bench was expensive, but it's a night and day difference from stock. They custom rebuilt the lumbar and there is a layer of memory foam in there. It is waaaay more comfortable that before. (almost as good as the Recaros)

    Here's the job they did:

    Those Recaros look awesome.

In due time I'm going to have a local interior guru add memory foam layers to my Subby seats in strategic places.

I have celica seats in my 99. The previous owner put them in so I cant tell you how difficult it was, but they are super comfortable.

What about Wet Okole seat covers with the lumbar support...? Anyone have any luck with those?

Thanks man! If you are ever down near Littleton let me know and you can try them out for yourself. Also, you mentioned a local interior guru adding memory foam. If your guy isn't available, I can send you the upholsterer I used. They did good work... expensive but good.

I had some 3000GT seats in my old 4Runner, they were real comfy and I wish I could find another pair. Maybe too soft for what your looking for though. Never got around to hooking up the electrics but I think they were also heated and had nice lumbar adjustments.

    No :(

Don't want to disparage the seats in my truck that I love

    Cool, I'll bookmark this.

I think my initial quote was $300 for the driver's seat.

Nice! Good support and heated... don't tell my wife:D

    Haha!

Yeah, your quote is about half of what I paid to do the whole front, so it sounds right to me. You know where to find me, if/when the time comes!

I have Cypher auto seats and absolutely love them. They have memory foam and fit me perfectly. My stock seats used to bother my lower back, even on short drives. With these, I forget I'm sitting down and don't have even the slightest discomfort. Worth every penny.

Well, in earnest, I bought some '00 Celica seats from a yard today. They are definitely shaped better and the driver's side seat has an adjuster to raise your ass in relation to lumbar support. I don't know why that isn't on every car seat. As if everyone is the same size.

So now, I just have to find someone to help me mod the rails and get these in. I'll post pics when I'm done. If anyone in Sacto, Ca can help, please pm me.
