You dont see them in the sun. All of the ones Ive seen during the hot months, are out in the AM or late PM. This year, Ive run over 3, relocated 7, and killed 2 (had to, as I was too close).

In AZ, NM and here in Oregon , I rarely seen rattlers or other snakes out in the heat of the sun over 90 or so. That's a bit of a generalization, but they do go for the shade at some point. At that point the shady stuff gets me concerned.

I prefer the dry air n the higher cooler alpine stuff to boot. To me Portland is muggy.

yea, get a reading on some asphalt, horrible place to work, sometimes I do line layout after they pave, glad I'm in Oregon for it, not AZ.

    Need suggestions
I find that it is hot but more tolerable than humid heat chris IMO. I used to keep snakes as a kid too. I once fed a wolf spider with an egg sac on its back to a cotton mouth lol

LOL!!! We have to dump water on the asphalt after its laid down, in the summer, as it wont get cool enough to roll if we don't. IIRC, it shows up at around 325*, and it takes about 1 to 2 hours to get it to a workable temp.

You working on some of the seal coating and new asphalt projects Tempe has going on right now Chris?

Do my best to avoid driving through those area while work is in progress, but sometimes you find yourself in the middle of things before you know it. Hot, sticky work and a pain in the rear for everyone involved including drivers!

I cracked an egg on the asphalt once (cliche) and it literally started to turn white and cool immediately!

It was 120 that day! This was a few years or more ago
