    Hello:

I'm wondering if I can simply switch out my manual doors for powered doors and end up with power windows, locks, and mirrors.

    I have a 2002 Tacoma PreRunner.

    Thanks,

    Paul

    Thank you for your reply.

I've been told by some people that the wiring will be there, and by some people that it won't. I can argue the logic of either situation so either is plausible to me.

The wires are probably there but the best thing to do is take the door panal off an take a look.

It doesn't look as though I have the appropriate wires. I took the door apart to replace the clip that allows the handle to work. I was happy that was such an easy and cheap repair.

    yes you can.

When i did my cab swap, the cab i was swaping on had manual doors and i put in my power windows and locks.

Everything bolts right up and lines up fine. It is however a major PITA.

Thanks for the reply Blackdawg. Do I just run new wires then or is there some other trick?

If it's only wires then the next step is finding the replacement doors for a price that isn't unreasonable.

you'll have to replace the entire window opening mechanism. So you'll have to pull the windows. Pull the manual widow slider. pull the manual lock mechanisim. Install the power slider, and power lock. Then just install the wire harness.

Its a PITA. But totally do able. You'll just be swapping the guts of the door over. As You'll see how everything lines up once you have both and take them apart.

Why not just directly swap the doors themselves? Wouldn't the same year fit the same year?

yea you can do that too. However, try and get as close to the same year as possible. Paint colors are seperate for 95-97, 98-00, and 01-04. Each has its own red, green, ect.

If you get the same color doors then you can just swap the entire door. But just because you get two doors that are the same color as your truck doesn't necessarily mean that they are going to match perfectly.

As far as the wiring goes, if your truck is pre-wired for power stuff then there will be a white box behind the kick panel that the plugs for the windows and everything to plug into.

If you don't have those boxes then you are going to have to wire everything in yourself. It is far from easy. I converted my s10 from manual to power and had to find a diagram for the switches. The run a hot, ground, and a wire to the other door so that you can work both windows from the driver side. Then you have to run a hot and ground to the passenger side switches. This is all just for the windows. Locks and mirrors will be similar but different set of wires.
