Anyhoo, I'm pretty sure I got them close enough that you'd actually have to measure them to detect any unevenness. They didn't pull down flush with the roof quite as much as I would have liked, but that's what the rubber pad underneath them is for.

Now I just have to figure out where I'm gonna put my CB radio. I have a '90s era Cobra 25 LTD Classic that's been tuned up and had a roger beep installed, but unfortunately it has the side mounted mic jack. If I got a single DIN stereo I could maybe get away with mounting it in the dash under the stereo like I've seen some folks do, but other than right on top of the dash, I really don't see anywhere else to put it.

 

The F250 is sold! Finally! Now that that's done, I pulled the trigger on my 4xI Sliders, Complete OME 3 inch lift with Dakar rears from Toytec, and some bed rail caps. Next on the list is taking the Taco to be painted. This build is finally going to start moving! I'm thrilled!

Pro Comp Series 97 Flat Black 15x8 steel wheels with a 3.75 Backspacing


33x12.50 R15 Bias Ply TSL Super Swampers (I'd really like to have the SX's but they only come in 33x14 R15, which I'm afraid would be too wide to fit.)






On the downside, the new paint isn't looking too good. The color change may exceed my budget and I'm not sure I want to pay a grand to get it repainted a color I don't particularly like (at least it's not red though). I have one more place to check. If he's not inside my acceptable limits, then I may just decide that the crappy paint is just a reason not to feel too bad if I scrape it on a rock or tree or something.

 

I say as long as there's no rust, then why repaint it

Look at the interco M16 mudradials.. They are considerably quieter smoother and wear better

Quieter is not really a factor for me. I like the noise. The M16s are okay, I guess, but their a little too much of an AT for me. I pretty much know what I'm getting into with the bias ply tires. They tend to flat-spot when parked for a while and it takes a little warming up before they get round again. And then there's the infamous Swamper wear factor. I don't put a lot of miles on my truck so even with swampers, I'm more concerned with how long they can go before rotting than how many miles I can get out of them, especially on a truck as light as a 1st Gen Taco. Had a set of 33x12.50 Trxus M/Ts on the F250 (which tipped the scales at 7500 lbs) and while it was a close thing, they weren't down to the wear bars before they rotted and started chunking after 9 years.

Anyway, I did consider a set of 33x12.50 SSRs, but they are almost a full inch shorter than the 33x12.50 Bias Plies in addition to being about $25 more a pop. However...since you mentioned it and I went and looked it up, I did see something I hadn't considered. The LTB. I can get those in 33x13.50 R15 and they are only a buck more a tire than the TSLs. The question will be: can I clear the extra inch in width?



I think I'll give them a shot. They almost have sidewalls like the TSL-SXs so they are probably pretty tough in the rocks.

I've had Swampers, Boggers, and Trxus M/Ts before so I kinda know what to expect.

I'm just hoping I can fit those 33x13.50 LTBs on 8" wheels with 3.75 backspacing and still clear the UCA without having to run spacers or SpiderTrax. I don't mind doing some fender clearancing if I have to. I got a sawzall and a ziz wheel and while reluctant, I'm not afraid to use them, lol.

But I have no experience with 1st Gen

Please note, it's a 33x13.50. So that said...you know someone that runs 13.50s on a 2nd Gen? If so, that's cool. Probably means there's a good chance of it working with a 1st gen too. I honestly think it'll be a wash as far as clearance on anything but the UCA. The normal TSL 33x12.50 says it's 33.7" OD while the LTB is only 32.8" OD, but is about .6" wider in cross section than the TSL (tread width is 1 inch wider). Of course, this is all math. Reality may prove to be radically different.

Yeah .. I thought it was 12.50 wide .. I personally had m16 at 12.50 on OEM rims

13+ would be tight on uca with 2nd Gen

 

Rgr that. Not sure what the backspacing is on the OEM 16x8s (I'm thinking like 4.25" for some reason). On my 1st Gen, the 31x10.50s are fairly close to the UCA on the factory 15x6 wheels, which probably doesn't bode well since there can't be much more than 3" of BS on a 6" wide wheel.

I'm hoping if anything I could get away with .25" spacers because, unfortunately, the lock-outs are really short and I'm afraid using those 1.25" SpiderTrax things may end up with the lock-out being recessed inside the hub of the wheel (which would probably make them even more difficult to operate).

Anyway, hopefully the tire shop will trial fit one beforehand so if it doesn't clear the UCA I can go to the regular TSLs.

 

Update on the paint...

I'm having it shot with flat OD green. Should look pretty good with all the chrome blacked out.
