i wouldn't recomende this cover I had mine for 6 months now and its leaking like crazy... today i left all my camping gear in the box, and took it out after a few hours of rain and everything was wet! the weather stripping on the side where the cover folds gets pretty beat up, it creates a gap and water is rushing in dripping along the edge all over the inside of the bed...

i know there not waterprof but I should have all my stuff soak every time its raining kind of sucks really.

he water I am having is coming front the middle section...

9 months and everything stays dry; and we've had big storms this late spring/early summer.

Went to the car wash today to see if something changed that I hadn't paid attention to. Used the high pressure wand all around the tonneau (truck was dirty like it is supposed to be). Still only had two small areas where water barely trickled in along side of bed. Nothing in the bed was even close to wet. You may have a bad cover or install isn't quite right.

I'm in the same boat, mine does leak. I've been meaning to put in some extra weather stripping but I always forget to pick some up. I may just call Extang and see what they say.

When I camp I use a truck bed tent, so the Tonneau comes off every single time. From removing it and putting it back on I've totally munched the weather stripping along the edges, but you know what's funny is, even in crazy rain it is still totally dry. Had mine probably a year and a half now ? There is 0 leaking in the centers where it folds, and tiny trickles maybe where the folding it along the edges. None of my camping gear ever gets wet though.

My main gripe is, after using the many washers technique to make the front clamps work with the bed rails, they are both a bit bent and are now hard to tighten.

Just because I remove and replace mine so often, I am actually going to look into getting two more of the rear spring clamps for the front. They seem to hold very securely and will let me take the thing on and off in seconds.

    Loving it so far though.

OH, OP, if still monitoring, have you closed your last flap, only to discover that you hadn't clicked the spring clamps in securely and ended up with two little dents? I sure have haha.

LOL. Typically don't have the cover open, but when it happens I've been lucky enough to remember to secure it. I'm still at only 11 months with and have no bending on the front clamps. Still dry inside regardless of the situation though.

I've been looking pretty hard at the Extang Solid Fold. It seems to be fairly water tight, I can still use the Toyota rail system, & if I need the truck bed, it takes all of 2 minutes to remove. My only concern is how durable is the finish on the cover? Does is scratch easy? Will the finish last the life of the truck or will it fade, chip, etc?

It doesn't scratch easy but will if youre not careful. it will dent easy if you're not careful. If you don't stow the clips and let it call on itself you can put a nice dent on it.

Can't comment on the finish since I've only had mine two months. Nie thing is there is a 3 year warranty which I hope it will cover if I do have any issues. Their CS is amazing.

Their customer service is quite good. I had an extang trifecta on my previous truck & had to use their customer service & they are definitely top notch.
I'm just planning on having the truck & cover for the next 10 years & dont want the cover to look like crap by year 4 or 5. Thanks for the heads up on it denting easily.

@krob: I have the Extang Trifecta (the soft tri-fold style) and the dealer mounted four brackets for the front and rear clamps! I didn't know it would fit directly in the Tacoma's tracks... The four brackets make it easier to mount back on (you'll maybe save 2-3 minutes) because you already have the location to mount the clamps...

Didn't you have those 4 brackets?

Extang make good products... I had a Trifecta on my old Ranger for three years, and it was still in mint shape... I still take good care of my stuff...

My clamps did not bend because I drove with them off. They bent because I am tightening the thing sort of against the rail, caused them to bend that way. 4 spring clamps would be perfect though.

Thanks for the awesome review of this tonneau cover! This review swayed my decision to purchase Extang Solid Fold. I too was torn between the Fold-A-Cover G4 and the Extang Solid Fold, mainly because of the fact that you get to keep the Toyota rail system with both covers. The main features that made my mind up was how fast the cover was removed if the entire truck bed was needed, and how simple the installation was compared to the G4. Also, the AMAZING deal from Luke at Truckalterations.com didn't hurt either. It should hopefully be here Monday/Tuesday & I'm looking forward to installing it.
